Sadler reiterated to TDN the first major goal for Flightline is the $1 million Metropolitan Handicap (G1) going a mile on June 11. His other major targets are either the Pacific Classic (G1) or Whitney (G1) in late summer and the Breeders' Cup Classic in the fall.

Ambitious plans for a 4YO with 3 career races.

Horse won't have run 2 turns in his career before August of his 4YO season with plans to run his next race after that in the BC Classic.

Certainly hope they can pull it off and we see him run in these 4 races this year.

I'm liking the Triple Bend-San Diego double. The Triple Bend is basically the San Carlos only 10 weeks later. The San Diego is the perfect stretch out race (2 turns but only 8.5f, usually a 5-horse field).

If you get beat in the San Diego (e.g., if it is larger than a 6-horse field) you have the option of cutting back to the Pat O'Brien. If you win the San Diego, then you come back and run 2nd or 3rd in the Pacific Classic to Country Grammer or Tizamagician.

Either way, from there you have 8 weeks until the BC Dirt Mile. If Ginobili and Restrainedvengance and the Cornhusker winner are the main rivals again then you might even win (unless Express Train shows up) and can opt to stay in training for the 2023 Pegasus to face 3 Dallas Stewarts, a Dale Romans allowance horse, a Mike Maker claim from Bill Mott, and possibly a place horse from the Discovery Stakes at Aqueduct.

You're correct. I misread the article regarding plans for Flightline's 2022 campaign.

Then again, how is this a description of a horse that DOESN'T have serious problems?

Furthermore, according to Sadler, he will run only four times as a 4-year-old.
......
One of Flightline's four races will be the Metropolitan Handicap (G1) in June at Belmont Park. Another will be the Longines Breeders' Cup Classic (G1) at Keeneland in November. The other two will be races either intended to get him to his primary targets in peak condition, or events so rich in purse incentives they cannot be ignored.

It might just be the new normal. They want to run valuable male horses as little as possible. We have seen this already, even if not to this extreme.

If he were gelded, he would be running more.

Looks like he's being wheeled back quickly in the Met Mile.

It'll be an interesting dilemma; stay home and run in the 4-horse Triple Bend on May 29 or get an extra 13 days to prepare but also have to ship across country to tackle an in-form Speaker's Corner amongst others.

I suppose retirement is another option...

I really wanted to see a match up with Life Is Good. LIG is ridiculously fast. So Flightline would almost certainly either be under pressure to run with him or he'd sit off and chase and then have to run down a very good miler.

Speaker's Corner is very sharp, but I think Flightine has the speed to outrun him early. Still a very good test though.

What are the chances of Jackie's Warrior running in the Met Mile?
