Breeder Cup and NBC
I am just wondering is NBC Sport channel handling the Breeder's Cup because nobody else will show it live, or what?
If horse racing is going to survive, someone needs to tell the executives at CD, PIM, BEL, SA and the Breeder's Cup you should at the least get NBC Sports to be in the basic packages of cable, Dish, Direct TV etc... before you sign deals with them.
I happen to be traveling, and the hotel chain has 3 Fox sports, 3 ESPN's, and 100's of other channels and no NBC sports. I also know it is rare to see TVG or HRTV in a hotel, you would think they need to do a little work also to expand our sport.

I doubt anything mattered but the package price.
Racing just doesn't have the broad based interest to warrant being on popular channels, and it never will. The glory days are long gone. I doubt the BC would out-draw anything else on network TV.

I think at this point we are fortunate that the horse racing is being shown by NBC Sports Network and that the BC Classic will be on NBC in prime time.

Be interesting to see how the ratings shake out.

I'll take the under - no Zenyatta, or Goldikova.

I think it's important to understand that the way people watch things now has drastically changed. We have so many more options than we did in the past.
I understand the complaints about the BC being on a channel a lot of people do not get. However, the races were streamed live on the Breeders Cup website. Hell, you could have watched the races from your phone.
I will say this. Another outfit like Bo Derek had on yesterday and the ratings will be just fine.

Live on HRTV as well. I was glad to be able to get Santa Anita's standard split screen pan shot that we're all used to. None of the camera switching from all different angles that you get on network TV.

I have no idea what package I have with Direct TV but I do get TVG, NBC Sports, the NFL Ticket and about everything else I want except for HRTV for a monthly cost of $89.12.

Amen. I had forgotten about all the typical, goofy angles the networks use because I was watching HRTV.

NBC is as good of a partner as we can expect. NHL, Indycar, and Horseracing have homes at NBC Sports, and while none will ever be the NFL or MLB, there is enough interest that the network will survive.

College football just has a much larger audience on a normal saturday than horse racing does on one of its most important racing weekends. LSU-Bama ratings would blow any BC tv ratings out of the water even if the BC was on NBC. I will be shocked if the BC beats the new NBA TV record that was set the other day when Portland played the Lakers at something like 887,000 viewers.

They had no plans on showing the first BC race of the day, now they will Pre-empt the second.
The Classic will be on network NCB tonight, barring any overtime of evening news or Jeopardy reruns.
All in all, their coverage really sucks.
