This is them saying they don't care about NATO...
Why do you think Trump is so pissed about it?
My post from July when we were arguing this might be the clue:

Yes, the United States should pay more.
Sounds unfair until you realize it's a pretty small price to pay for running the largest national economy and having as backup the largest proxy economy in the world... until recently that is.
This whole thing is now beginning to backfire with nationalist and European solidarity movements picking up massive steam.
|
Remember it was just back in July the EU was one of our "greatest geopolitical foes'" according to Trump... now he's insulted they are starting to tell the United States to kick rocks...
Hate to say I told ya so... but... told ya so...

There is a constant drumbeat against dems an liberals and progressives here and out there. Grow up and feel the rightful deserved resentment, particularly after Trumpism was repudiated Nov 7tgh. Well I continue to repudiate it and it's hateful rotten rhetoric
I do not apologize for my politics. And I was re-iterating there is no equivalency on both sides which I think Gus was kind enough to extend to all the Chumpsters wrongly. I will try to not make personal judgements, based on politics, in most cases , but the record of insults aimed at me FIRST DOES MALE THAT TOUGHThere is no end of people like Andy A insulting libs and progressives.
Why not call him out?

Trump gets insulted when the fire under the frying pan he is sitting in, gets turned up. Like an immature petulant toddler.
Much hotter, more petulance since Nov 7th.

I thought he wanted Europe to do more for its own defense... shouldn't he be happy?
I went ahead and followed through to the answer in post 136 for ya since I'm generous and all. Its an example of Trump's moronic policy ultimately weakening American Hegemony.
A Europe less reliant on United States military might is a Europe far less willing to tow whatever line we tell them to.
^^
That's why he's pissed and that's also why you don't shit on your allies...

I've been doing it and hitting it out of the park for awhile...
Agreements that have been in place for 70 years putting us atop the global order are weakening by the tweet... but hey... #MAGA amirite?
A stronger and more militarily autonomous Europe means a weaker America... to steal one from you guys:
Why does Trump and his followers hate America so much?

One reason we are in Europe is because we have assumed since the end of WWII that we need to treat Russia as a potential threat. Our military strategy is that we would rather fight the Russians over there than over here.
Similarly, we are in Japan and South Korea because our military strategy is that we would rather fight the Chinese over there than over here.
Trump tweets that we "...pay for LARGE portions of other countries military protection...". At the same time, we are also paying for our own military protection. Likely Europe could and should pay more. But this issue would best be discussed between grown-ups in private, not in tweets on the internet.

Agree with some of what you say.
Thing is we are the internet and this is a message board that is part of the social media complex.
