Not that I know anything about or have anything against Hong Kong racing, but from what I gather those pools are enormous and attract the most sophisticated gambling money in the world.

Experience tells me that's the wrong place to look for value.

If you want to go non mainstream, you are probably better off handicapping and making smaller bets into the some of the very small tracks around the US. None of the whales are going to be there.

Hey Class, I have a question for you. Did you play the last Breeders Cup? Never mind, don’t answer that, of course you did. So my question becomes, Why did you play the Breeders Cup last November since “the pools are enormous and attract the most sophisticated gambling money in the world.”?

We go to your very sensible model, I'd have to travel well over 500 miles to be at any live racing. We all love watching these beautiful animals in the flesh, and on the track with the hooves pounding and the excitement only an at the track experience can deliver.

Are you saying it should only be an "elitism" sport?
Hey LDH. I always enjoy your posts and your race analyses that you post from time to time..

As far as Fonner Park and the other small tracks that hold thoroughbred meets, in my model they switch to harness racing. The locals could still see "these beautiful animals in the flesh."

Now, the 800 lb. gorilla in all of this - who BUYS all the individual track in the country, because you can't control what you don't own.

It can't work, because there will never be one central governing agency.

Hong Kong racing is governed by one regulatory agency, and the horsemen have zero say into what the rules and regulations will be. They can offer input, but they don't have a "vote."

No way will every state/province in North America and every horseman's group agree to one regulatory body or the rules that should be used. Nor should they. Almost every state and province in North America has its own breeders' organization, and each has different levels of quantity and quality of horses, and each has a different situation to deal with. It's entirely different in Hong Kong, where there is no breeding industry and all horses are brought in.

Isn't this just a warmed-over version of the lettered grade format used at many dog tracks?
