Cell Phone Industry

Who's palm did they grease @ the FCC or DC in general that they're able to charge people for leaving a plan or, better yet, tie people into another 2 year commitment just for changing plans?

Is there any other industry that gets away with this nonsense?

big biz remember?

nobody is twisting the arms of the 'merkin consumer to have one. you can get virgin mobile, boost or trac without a contract - pay as you go

you should see the operating margins for just selling "airtime"

I don't think they twisted arms. I think they just write it into the contracts.

Not all of them do it.

Here's a good idea of a new contract law - no fine print. ALL conditions must be clearly readable in the same size and font.
Oh, wait, that would benefit people, so our government will never do it.

Just pondering, if everyone took the time to read all the fine print in everything they signed, what would be the cost in lost productivity nationwide?

Boggles the mind.

Next the Feds will bail folk out of car payments.

Out of principal it seems an oddity that cell phone Co's have this standing "we're going steady for a minimum of 2 years" policy. It may not be with all of 'em but it's with a preponderance.

Speaking of cell phones, I remember one I had back in the mid 80's, housed in an attache case with a battery the size of car battery. I felt like James Bond and had arms like Swartzy schlubbing the heavy beast about.

For a spell I'd frequent a Copa Cabana style club with a full big band and haul this baby along. High tech with a spotty signal at best.
