How could they know without labs what it was?

Our regular run-of-the-mill flu often peaks in Feb. Be careful out there.

Looking at the CDC flu surveillance map, it's highly active in every state right now. Looks like this year it's strain B that is causing the most problems.

This little girl in Iowa got the flu, and unfortunately got encephalopathy (a known complication of the flu).....went into a coma due to brain swelling, and is now blind with some brain damage as well. Heartrending. Hers was ANE, a type of encephalopathy usually caused by a viral infection but very rare.

She may very well re-gain her sight at some point.......I pray that she does.

Her mother's message: get your children innoculated. Her child had no underlying health problems before this.

the 'quarantines' may be making things worse rather than better. People stuck on cruise ships are in closer contact than most places.

3700 people onboard and they’re not allowed to leave their cabins.

People in the inner cabins. No natural light, no fresh air. People break down in these conditions after a week. So after two weeks we can brace for bizarre behavior in the news any moment.

I cant' even count THOSE there are so many.

You surely don't want to know about other ones.....you would need brain bleach to erase it from your memory.

Wasn't Mike Vick recently given some kind of pro bowl captain -----there is no way to "un-do" the untold suffering those dogs experienced. Ever.

When I see people who have never seen the things that are done to dogs, cats, by supposedly civilized humans, because they aren't knee deep in it every day, I am both happy for them, but also realize that they are terribly terribly naive.

If what other humans are doing to dogs and cats is concerning, look around you to help the ones nearby that need your help. Otherwise, glass houses......
Animal shelters are sad places. If more people visited them, we would have much more compassion for abandoned and neglected animals in our own neighborhoods. Instead they are out of sight out of mind for many people.

The economic strain has to be enormous. Three of the ten largest airlines in the world are based in China and I'm assuming they're basically grounded. Food shelves are almost empty, and little is leaving or coming in the country. What this might do in any length of time has to be a crisis in itself, aside from the humanitarian aspect.

So many diseases come out of China.
Another stellar example of socialism/communism in action.
They do not take care of their people or their country.

Vote Bernie - let's show them we can fail better than they can!

Word is that there are dead bodies piled here and there. The government must be roping the areas off because I've yet to see pictures of such.
I watched a 30 min video last night by a doctor, he says its crucial to get immediate treatment once symptoms occur. You know that with all the people infected there, there's no way this is going to happen.

New Report on 138 Coronavirus Cases Reveals Disturbing Details

A highly contagious patient, virus transmission inside a hospital and unexpected turns for the worse have emerged as part of the epidemic in China.

One patient, admitted to a hospital in Wuhan, China, infected at least 10 health care workers and four other patients with the coronavirus that has sickened more than 34,000 people, killed 700 and reached two dozen other countries.

The case was just one disturbing detail in a new report on 138 patients in Wuhan that helps explain how the illness progresses and how it spreads.

The report, one of two published on Friday by JAMA, is among the most comprehensive articles to date about people infected with the newly identified virus.

The patients ranged in age from 22 to 92, with a median of 56 years, and were admitted to Zhongnan Hospital of Wuhan University from Jan. 1 to Jan 28. Many of them — 41 percent — were presumed to have caught the virus in the hospital, including 17 people who had been admitted for other illnesses, and 40 health care workers.

Data from http://windy.com shows a massive release of sulfur dioxide gas from the outskirts of Wuhan, commonly associated with the burning of organic matters. Levels are elevated, even compared with the rest of China.
link to windy.com & its there, real or fake, its there. I have this link set to the GPS coordinates.

The article

It speculates that they're burning human bodies. And using a rough calculation of the element table, the article further speculates it would take 15,000 human bodies to produce this effect.

The government of a country has NOTHING to do with viral expansion.

quote: In 2008, research by Russell and others showed that new strains of H3N2 arose in East and Southeast Asia – an area that includes China, Malaysia, western Indonesia, Korea and Japan – then showed up in Europe and North America six to nine months later, before continuing to South America, where they died out. In other words, the flu virus circulating in Europe and the Americas did not directly descend from the previous year’s strain but was “re-seeded” with variants from Asia each year.

The scientists noted that India may have long played a role in seeding seasonal flu epidemics, but countrywide influenza surveillance only began there in 2004 and large-scale sequence data did not appear prior to this study. The finding might help virologists predict which strains of flu virus to include in annual flu vaccines.

Correlation has not EVER, NOW or will be CAUSE and EFFECT.

Flu like most other viral diseases has a widely varied geographic origin.

https://www.businessinsider.com/map-...es-from-2015-6

quote: Previous research had shown that H3N2 viruses are always going around in East and Southeast Asia, and spread to the rest of the world in yearly flu epidemics — which is how we can predict what strains are coming each year. Between worldwide epidemics, H3N2 strains die out everywhere but the west. That means each yearly epidemic spreads out from that reservoir, including the new strains you need to get a fresh shot for.

"Ultimately, this means that we can look at the viruses circulating in Asia to get a good idea of which H3N2 virus might spread worldwide, but for H1N1 and B it's tremendously variable and the dominant variant can vary from one region of the world to another," senior author Colin Russell said in a statement from the University of Cambridge.
