My lovely bride and I went grocery shopping today.Noted that at Aldi's, all their paper towels and toilet paper shelves were empty. We went to Bravo, a supermarket chain that caters to a Hispanic/West Indies clientele. They had toilet paper for sale; 11.99 for a 12 roll of the name brands ,8.99 for the generics. An 8 roll set you back 8.99 or 5.99 depending again on the brand.I didn't see too many carts with any TP, which shows that price may be the best device to prevent hoarding/panic.Luckily we had bought a 36 roll about a month ago at Sam's Club and just opened it over the weekend. And I had bought a big case of paper dinner napkins last year which we hardly put a dent in.Any port in a storm.

I don't recall people doing all the crazy shit they are doing now...I guess the stock market was already cratered from the housing crisis, so there's that...but we weren't suspending pro sports or telling people to stay locked up in their houses after hoarding supplies, nor were we closing schools or limiting the number of people gathering in public...
I guess Obama really was the better president.

Then why is trump declaring a national emergency today at 3:00pm
It’s obviously worse than you think it is.

I've been tripped up by the run on toilet paper, it's not funny. I made a short grocery trip on Saturday and things seemed normal then. I put off my next trip 'til yesterday, and things had suddenly become crazy. No TP at all; cleaning supplies and hand soap, gone. Spent this morning going to 5 or 6 other stores, same thing all over everywhere. Not only that, the usual amount of checkout lines were open, but they were all 10-12 deep in line. I guess that's what panic looks like.
Civilization seems fragile, seems like we could become third-world overnight if left to our own selfish designs.
Back to the TP, I had a notion to snag a couple rolls at work, but the janitor's closet that's always open is now locked. These are indeed desperate times.

Exactly, those small business owners have no right to run a business and be profitable. Especially since 0bama and crew built it for them.

You know panic has maxed when people are risking getting the flu by standing in lines to buy more toilet than they'll need for a year.

OTOH, you really don’t want anyone with covid-19 anyplace near you.
I myself am using NYC sick time and my employees largess.
So if it’s between profits and have someone getting customers sick.
Well...you choose profits....I understand.

Wait until hordes of people start losing their jobs and businesses start shuttering all over the place...then tell me it was all worth it when we find out the mortality rate wasn't much higher than the flu after all...hell, right now it's what? 1-2% higher worst case? South Korea's numbers put it right around regular flu level last time I checked....CDC says most people will have mild symptoms...but yeah, economic carnage + recession + unemployment will definitely be worth it all...
And since when do certain people look upon what Trump does as something meaningful or worthy?
