Saratoga schedule released for 2014 racing season

The Saratoga racing season kicks off on July 18 and will run through September 1 with no racing on Tuesdays.
Here is the schedule for the upcoming meeting released on Monday, June 23, 2014.
Post time will be 1 p.m. every day except on Travers Day, Saturday, August 23, when post time will start at 11:35 a.m. for the 13-race card.
On Wednesdays and Thursdays, post time will start at 12:25 p.m. for the steeplechase races followed by a nine-race card beginning at 1 p.m. and ending at 5:15 p.m.
On Mondays, there will only be nine-race cards, beginning at 1 p.m. and ending at 5:15 p.m.
There will be 10-race cards every Friday and selected Sundays starting with a 1 p.m. first-post with the finale going off at 5:48 p.m.
Every Saturday and selected Sundays will offer 11-race programs that begin at 1 p.m. and end at 6:18 p.m.
There will be a $500,000 guaranteed Late Pick 4 every Saturday pending approval from the New York State Gaming Commission.
On Whitney Day, Aug 2, the NYRA is planning to offer a $250,000 guaranteed Pick 5 that starts with race one, a $250,000 guaranteed Pick 6 that begins with race six and a $750,000 late Pick 4 that begins with race 8. The three pools have to be approved by the NYSGC.
On Travers Day, Aug. 23, gates will open at 8:30 a.m. for the 11:35 a.m. first post with the finale going off at 6:20 p.m.
NYRA hopes to offer a $500,000 guaranteed Pick 5 starting with race one on Travers Day, a $500,000 guaranteed Pick 6 and a $1 million guaranteed Pick 4 on the final four races of the afternoon, all depending on approval from the NYSGC.

Looks the same as last year. I guess they canned the late Friday start for good now. I'm glad they are still running six days, the only U.S. track , I believe, that does that.
Can't wait.

It's not for the whole season but The Downs at Albuquerque runs for twelve consecutive days during the New Mexico State Fair in September.

Hearing mention of Saratoga quickened the pulse a bit, but my enthusiasm is somewhat dampened by my thinking that Steve Crist will not be able to write his daily blog in DRF during SAR--for me his write-up has been an integral part of my enjoyment of the meet. He made the Saratoga experience seem closer to one living in the outlands.
I hope he is well.

I like it. Less races and getting it over with at a decent time. Nice job by NYRA. Those longer cards were getting old. More so during the week. I think this is a good move for on track attendees. Some days it was a ghost town before the feature went off. You can't expect people to stay there until 630.

Wrong I was (again!). Apparently Mr. Crist is well enough to once again provide us with the pleasure of reading his daily Saratoga blog--and that's a good thing. Good that he's well enough to do it, and good that I find it great fun to follow his wagers and his take on the goings-on. He has made the allowance to do the blog from home rather than the track...but that should help keep him off the fried food, and maybe around a few years more.

The purse schedule is a bit gloopy though - open $20k claimers have a $40,000 purse while $20k maiden-claimers run for $37,000?
And how can the purse for a $50k NW2 claimer be less than the purse for a $50k maiden claimer? ($49,000 vs. $50,000; I've noticed this at the other NYRA tracks too).

This is excellent news. I was unaware that Steve was moving forward with his blog at Toga. We wish him continued health and healing for sure.
