Here is a part of the press release I received from Old Friends..
euthanized April 5 at Old Friends Thoroughbred Retirement Center in Kentucky. The 24 year old stallion had been receiving intensive treatment from Dr. Bryan Waldridge and Dr. Bryan Fraley for a combination of issues, but over the last week his quality of life and prospects of recovery diminished.

Bull Inthe Heather was sired by 1986 Kentucky Derby winner Ferdinand out of Heather Road by The Axe II. Bred in Kentucky by Claiborne Farm and John Franks and raced as a two- and three-year old by Arthur I. Klein, he was trained by Howard M. Tesher. The tall roan colt finished second in the 1993 Fountain of Youth Stakes but went off as a 29.40 longshot in the Florida Derby (G1). Wigberto Ramos steered him through at the rail to hand favorite Storm Tower his first defeat. Off a near-win in Hialeah's Flamingo Stakes, Bull Inthe Heather started as second favorite at 5.20 in the 1993 Kentucky Derby and competed in the Belmont Stakes, won by Sea Hero and Colonial Affair respectively.

Bond Holder lost his battle with laminitis . This from FB

It is with great sadness that we have to announce we have lost Bond Holder to laminitis. With every set back he always fought back, but in the end the severity of the laminitis was too much to overcome. Though our Team is devastated, we rest in knowing he was in the best hands possible and that Mr. Reddam spared no resource or expense to try and save Bond Holder.

RIP!!

In memory of Swale, who won the Ky Derby 30 years ago today. Laffit Pincay's only Derby win, Swale left us way too soon.

Seeing Laminitis posted here is sad.

This is, as you gents know, a painful disease claiming many horses including the great Secretariat. Died October 4, 1989 long before his time to leave us.

I hope that soon it is curable.

I read that the hard knocking "Point Taken" had to be euthanized after
spending some time at a veterinary clinic.
Popular in the NY claiming ranks , not at the bottom !
Run free and RIP!

Does anyone here know the actual cause of death for Swale?
I know he collapsed and died on his way back to his stall after a wash down.
Just wondering the exact cause. Thanks.

Several theories and but a conclusion ? not definite .
Some think the sudden cardiac arrest was due to a heart defect .
That seems to be likely .
Without testing for the sudden death gene , which has not been around that
long and not done unless heart monitoring shows a long QT wave syndrome .
We really have no real proof .
Big heartbreaks back then , Swale and Landaluce . Will never forget either
one .

"One of racing's most beloved ponies." --B.Livingston

Foaled: 4-10-85 Died: 6-28-14

Last August, DRF photographer and former Baltimore Sun sportswriter, Tom Keyser, wrote a feature piece on Tils Tilbury and Frosty, who for years have spent April to November at Saratoga ponying horses each morning.

Rest in peace, fella. You will be missed.

Quote:
About three summers ago on the Oklahoma Training Track at Saratoga, Tilbury and Frosty were jogging a young colt, just back to the track after a minor injury, when the colt reared up. He struck at Tilbury with his hooves, hitting her in the arm and face. Then he tried to climb on top of her and Frosty.

What have we ever done to deserve a longer life-span than these wonderful animals?
