All I want for Xmas
is for Comptroller DiNapoli (who is very thoughtful and a solid investor with a fully funded pension fund unlike most US states, and is from Rockville Centre near Belmont, and who attends Saratoga racing) and Governor Hochul, who correctly and kindly authorized hundreds of millions of dollars to NYRA for a new Belmont, to either:
a) cancel the NYS Gaming Commission (NYSGC) and build a new one with board members who actually know what they are doing, or maybe even better
b) given that sports betting/casinos etc is and will be the main focus of NYSGC going forward, take horse racing responsibilities away from NYSGC and build a new commission for horse racing from scratch, most especially the stewards, also take on responsibilities for developing new trainers, the stock at NYRA is way off what it used to be, and too many trainers at NYRA have major violations in their history
Look up NYSGC online, and see how disconnected their board members are from horse racing, and then watch one of their recent meetings on YouTube - they are fine I suppose for sports/other wagering, but horse racing, especially given the major investment being made by the State, needs fresh blood, especially the stewards, and a dedicated focus to ensure that large investment succeeds as the sport needs it to
