From the article:

The Energy Department estimates that heating and cooling buildings in the US accounts for more than 35 percent of the country's energy consumption.
Compared to gas boilers, heat pumps reduce greenhouse gas emissions by up to 50 percent, according to the agency.
The new funding is the latest step the Biden administration has taken to push more efficient home appliances, after proposing tighter standards for water heaters and dishwashers.
'Getting more American-made electric heat pumps on the market will help families and businesses save money with efficient heating and cooling technology,' said Secretary of Energy Jennifer M. Granholm.

I will admit of the two Biden appointees that deal with going green, Jennifer Granholm is far more intelligent than Deb Haaland, but that is like saying Joe Biden is more mentally aware and physically mobile than a person suffering from level 5 cerebral palsy. Both of them lie more than a used car salesman selling $2,000 junkers.

Efficiency of a heat pump depends on ambient temperature. If your outside temperature is often in the unit's sweet spot it can be more efficient
than a conventional central AC/Heat system that is all electric. If the ambient temperature is not friendly with your unit it won't save you a freaking penny, and it might even cost a little more.

Unfortunately we have 1/2 the population that will eat the shit either lying or uneducated Granholm will spew. Democrats have a habit of passing on
misinformation whether because they believe their "trusted sources" or unwilling to fact check. It also could be the fact checking would involve digesting technical information that is way over their head.

To prove my claim in the bolded just Google for how a heat pump functions in extreme cold. Or you can trust me when I say it turns on electric heating elements to help the heat pump keep up. Then it becomes an electricity hog. Mine will start pulling over 10,000 watts of power if it drops below freezing. It only uses half that to cool, probably because the average summer high is only high 80's. I bet if I drug that thing back to Riverside Ca it would be using over 10,000 watts to cool and way less than half that to heat.

I am sure no noticed people lying about green energy makes my blood boil.

I have a heat pump and hate it. No choice because there is no ng in our neighborhood. They are noisy and in colder weather, it is running constantly and the air it blows out is not very warm. When it is so cold the toaster has to kick in, the e bill soars.

The noise doesn't bother me, but I have an old Ingersol Rand air compressor that sounds like a 454 Chevy with a rod knock, you can hear it 1/4 mile away.
I have been waiting for that thing to explode for the last 15 years.

I live in the woods, the houses are about a 1/4 mile apart. I have a neighbor with a Civil War era black powder rifle, he can be heard over 1/2 mile away.
Nothing like going outside for a better cell single when he is target shooting.
He can get off about 3 rounds a minute which is considered expert.

I wonder if there is a setting on the heat pump for when the "toaster" kicks in. Mine goes to it pretty quick, I wonder if newer ones (mine is like 12 years old) have a variable slice 8 slot toaster, or 2,4,8 slot toasters that can be used separately or all at once. The way mine pegs the ammeter needle
I think I just have an industrial sized electric pizza oven in my attic.

Course Briben goes to a 70 year old war powers act
.. it's only appropriate since Joe's been waging war against the middle class since taking a Government check. No reason for senile old phuck to stop now when he's so close to his EOL.

Me I'll keep burning dead falls off my land for heating.. cost about 5 buck in gas and oil and another 20 for the tractor. And run swamp coolers in the summer.

I have a neighbor who burns wood pellets. Surprised I haven't heard anything about getting rid of those.

Check this out, I live on a 10 acre lot in a heavily wooded area, and the house which is a pile of crap was built without a fireplace, I live on a power line road where they come through and clear it pretty far back into the easements every couple years, they leave all he good stuff. I just let my neighbor have my share and any down, dead or dying on my 10 acres. He has a boiler room that heats his home and greenhouse, he can burn unseasoned chunks up to 3 feet.

Did your neighbor do the math on the wood pellets? I use kerosene when the electric heat can't keep up in the shop. I just use the large Coleman lantern style. They just spew their fumes in the shop but they burn pretty clean if maintained and properly adjusted.

Kerosene is more expensive for me than electric for heat, but that is because my electric is slightly under the national average, last bill 16 cents per KWH,
and I am buying kerosene out of the pump and not from a tanker delivery.
Is your neighbor getting the pellets by the sack or dump truck? Another issue, the wood pellet stoves would have to be vented out the 14 foot roof peak. I have a habit of being a due it yourselfer who doesn't trust people I don't get a referral for. I don't belong up a ladder more than 1/2 way up an 8 footer, so I would have to hire the installation out. Two things I won't do is go up on roofs or down into wells.
