How were these horses eligible for the race?
Quote:
Purse $7,000. For Four Year Olds And Upward Which Have Never Won Two Races. Four Year Olds, 122 Lbs.; Older, 123 Lbs. Claiming Price $3,200 (Maiden, Claiming And Starter Races For $2,500 Or Less Not Considered). One Mile. (All Weather Track)

This was Golden Gate Race 2 today.
The 1 horse had 2 wins. One was a 4k claiming race with a purse of 8k and the other a 12.5k MCL race with a purse of 9k.
The 3 horse also had 2 wins. One was 12k CLM / 15k purse; the other was a 12.5k MCL with a 10k purse.
The 5 horse's two wins were a 4k claimer with an 8.5k purse and a 50k MCL with a 30k purse.
What am I missing?

Here's the way I'm seeing the conditions.
Maiden races - not considered.
Claiming races - not considered.
Starter races for $2,500 or less not considered.

I got some clarification from Golden Gate. They admit it is poorly written. These are the actual conditions.

if they win one of these ->Maiden, Claiming And Starter Races For $2,500 Or Less Not Considered
they do not count as a win for the conditions
your 3 horses all have 1 win (for the condition) so are eligible

They mean all maiden races. They could be a little more clear on that.

I already posted what the actually mean. They put the 2,500 like it applied to all three conditions. I could see where it could be read as the 2,500 only applying to starter conditions, but that wasn't the case either. The 2,500 applied to claiming and starter races, but not maidens. All maiden races were excluded so this was essentially a NW3.
By Golden Gate's way of writing conditions, the 6 that won the race as favorite was eligible for a NW of 0 races.

They could be a lot more clear on that and just call it a NW of 3 like most every other track does.

There may be a horse in there that won a maiden, claiming and a starter race for 2500 and would not be eligible for NW3, however he would fit this race. I always look for a horse that fits when I see odd conditions such as this. The racing secretary likely wrote this race for one of them.

Nah - you need to slum with us at CT; conditions like this are common re WV-bred races being excluded
As applied there - maiden and claiming don't count towards the $2500 limitation, just the starter allowance condition.

haha....about once a year a Boise shipper will actually be the real deal @ GGF---but most are entered at far lower than their "Boise Level"
Sometimes you'll see an entry with a 4-5 wins--in an NW2X like that one, and still qualify.
A quick screen for those races--check EPS--gives a quick snapshot of
contenders, and once in a while an overlooked horse will appear on top .

Vague or incomplete wording in race conditions is not uncommon. And the form sometimes condenses headers to omit key clauses.
As a bettor and handicapper, I've always considered it mildly insulting when conditions and weights aren't clearly laid out in a comprehensive manner.
And as a racing official, I've learned the importance of precisely worded conditions when dealing with horsemen. Lack of clarity causes ineligible entries and leaves the door open for debate from the people who made those entries. Believe me, there are trainers that LIVE for the "gotcha" moment that results from finding an unintentional loophole in a poorly worded race header. And they start combing through the book the minute it comes out.

I remember a few years ago in one of the starter allowance races for n2l that had to have broken maiden for $40K claiming or lower (now it's must have a start for $40K claiming or lower) Paul Aguirre had a horse entered that had broken maiden at Turf Paradise in one of those MSW OC $30K. The horse was not available to be claimed in the TuP race, but somehow, Aguirre got him into the StAl, and won at 15-1. I saw later they took the purse money away from Aguirre and crew and redistributed it.
Vic may remember this one. It was a Friday night at Hollywood Park. I even remember it was the 4th race. As soon as I hear the name, I'll go, yep, that's it. The horse was running as recently as last year.
