Owner Silks

Why don't other tracks do like Fonner Park does? They have the jockeys silks and helmet match the saddle pad? IE green It makes it a lot easier to follow your horse during a race. Is it because of tradition?

My silks are Blue and white and if I couldn't afford silks I would race at Fonner Park. Now that I think about it, it would be cheaper for fans to get glasses to see their wage run.

It's entirely about tradition. Think of all the great colors over the years. Claiborne's yellow. Calumet and Ogden Phipps black. Juddmonte's and the Moss's light blue and pink. So many others.

Imagine if Secretariat had three different colors from his Triple Crown races?

"House" colors are also not the friend of an announcer. Makes race calling much much tougher.

It's a county fair thing. Folks who pay tens of thousands of dollars to race a horse typically want to see it in their silks, regardless of how inconvenient it is for fans. Also keep in mind that on a bull ring it is easy to see the silks... and since the races are generally 8 or less horses, they can keep the silks relatively distinguishable from each other.

Wow! That response doesn't sound snooty at all.

Are the jockey helmet colors ever of any help in calling a race, especially if a number of horses are in a tight bunch?

I can remember calling the trainer out for putting his blinkers on our horse. He told me that my horse's head was too big for the stables blinkers and he thought the reason was because my Gelding had a lot of Mule in his Blood. Love this game

A massive help. This year for our graded Stakes at OP in which we use the same color saddle cloths. I memorized the entire fields using two sources. Silks only. And caps only.

Announcers only use saddle cloths if were in trouble. But they do help confirm when two sets of silks look very similar.

Mountaineer is the same was as Fonner with the colours.

It looks like you accidentally included the caption you use when sending nudes.

Stop sending nudes was # 12 on my list of reasons to stop drinking.
