The correct answer is probably maybe.

California citizens were warned that cloth and surgical masks will not protect them from harmful particles in the smoke resulting from the CA fires. Those particles are supposedly 4 microns in size. Covid 19 is 1 micron.

What that suggests is that even of you wear a mask you are still at risk of infection (potentially high risk) because masks will not stop a 1 micron size particle.

However, it is conceivable that even if many people will get infected despite wearing masks, it may protect some or reduce the viral load and cause a milder case if it catches any virus particles at all.
