I think Spinoff is a nice colt.
He might be sneaky in the Derby.

JV sticking with CoH. Franco on Spinoff. I like JV more in a big show but Franco is no slouch and having a career year.

tough question.
Spinoff seems higher quality and classier.
Cutting Humor seems the more likely of the two to get 10 furlongs.

Was waiting for someone to say this, because it gets said EVERY SINGLE YEAR, without fail, no matter what the field is.
Plenty of classic distance stamina in most of these as far as I'm concerned, and some are speedy enough. Since I like Belmont Stakes best out of all the TC races, I like the stamina guys.
What *specifically* do you dislike about this year?

Just looking at sire side chefs and mares, Spinoff defintiely has more stamina, almost looks like similar profile to Country House but not as good. Not even as good as Battle of Midway was. Has to get his speed from female side. Cutting Humor the opposite, gets more speed from sire side but stamina doesn't look as good to me. If I were todd I'd put spinoff in the belmont instead where speed isn't as much of an issue. Todd is better in that race anyway.
All in all, I think it's 6 o' one, half dozen of another with these 2. Depends on track condition, post position, etc. I'm inclined to take a hard spun gone west over a first samurai pulpit myself.
Cutting Humor 6-2-2-1
Spinoff 4-2-1-1
Not sure I can "fit" either into my trifecta. Superfecta maybe but not sure I want to go that deep. If I do spend the $$ to go deep, I figure i may as well just do a Super High Five instead for the big bucks payout. Cutting Humor might be my 5th horse in that scenario.

spinoff.
lightly raced with early foot
cross fingers, hope for improvement. should be in decent position just off the lead..have to think war of will fits the bill as well.
doesn't look a whole lot better than many but racing style is key in the derby
exotics should be huge

You wrote over at the Tacitus thread,

If "betting on Wood horses in the Derby has been a sure-fire way to lose for a long time", what about betting on Louisiana horses in the Derby? Hasn't that been a sure-fire way to lose for a LONGER time? (Please insert little girl throwing money out the window.)

what does me selecting spinoff as the pletcher that i prefer have any bearing on the wood memorial.
absolutely nothing
did i say he was a gr8 bet..did i say he was a must use......nah....you just want to relate 2 different things in a weak attempt to call me out for your own twisted and petty reasons
and being honest,..since jv didn't pick him you have to downgrade as well. even with preferred running style

In one thread, you are critical of the Wood not having produced a Derby winner for 15 years but in a different thread, you pick horses to win the Derby coming out of a race (Louisiana Derby) that has produced absolutely zilch for longer than the Wood. Seems a bit Pecksniffian, don't you think?
Yet, there is still time and therefore hope. Having read your post, I do see you are coming to your senses and have changed your mind with Spinoff using JohnnyV as an excuse. Please be advised that War Of Will suffered a strain in the Louisiana . . . there is still time to change your mind w/him too, as he is likely to run up the track. (Please insert little girl throwing money out of widow.)
By the way and FYI, the Wood produced (4) Triple Crown Winners . . .
