The problem is that these can happen without larger sample sizes, didnt pletcher lose like 4 or 5 in one meet to on and off track issues a while back at Saratoga?

Yes, but there was very little social media back then. That is the difference.

Not much is going to matter to the forces trying to ban racing. I was curious to see his recent history regarding breakdowns.

But baseball fans are often very forgiving of Mark McGwire

That is a moronic example.
Mark McGwire never even played baseball when steroids were against the rules.
Bonds played, broke the rules, and then lied about it.
... forgetting the fact that you could add Bonds and Henry Aaron together and find a single 50+ home run season between them.

Three horses, Warners, Left Bank, and Freedom's Daughter, all died shortly after extremely impressive wins. Left Bank's was over Street Cry in the Whitney. I believe the reason given was Colitis X, but you would have to look it up.

Steroids actually were against the rules.
Baseball didn't test for them, but they were against the rules, which is why players denies using them.

McGwire used Androstenedione, which was NOT banned by baseball until 2004.
Ergo, he never played when what he used was against the rules.
There's the difference between he and Bonds and their respective reputations.

McGwire didn't just use Andro, which was legal.
He also admitted later, after years of denying, that he used steroids, which weren't. You don't know the history, apparently.

I got to see McGuire up close during his HR battle with Sosa, whatever year that was, and it was absolutely stunning to see his forearms. I don’t know what the hell he was using but the word un-natural comes to mind.
He looked like a Clydesdale .......everybody who got a close look knew he was using something.
