And all this time I thought that the superstar players were mainly motivated by the "glory" of championships.

I think that Philadelphia is entering their "window" and is poised to win championships. That had to have entered into his thinking somewhere.

Very hitter-friendly park also, his numbers should reflect.

The park he's been playing in is also friendly, no?

I'm trying to remember exactly, but didn't Harper get into some sort of scuffle with the brass in his rookie year and he got dressed down in public? I remember thinking that Harper would never sign a long term contract with Washington, and that he'd leave as soon as he had the chance. Sound familiar to anyone?

Harper was Trump's Attorney General? As good with the books as he is with the bat.

Mtrout and Los Angeles Angels putting final touches on 12 year, $430M extension.

He's worth it if he brings the money back in, and he does.

No non-pitcher has effected a baseball game the way Mike Trout does since Barry Bonds. He effects the way you pitch to the 8 hitter with 2 outs in the 4th. He effects the way you line up your bullpen. He effects your line up for the next day. He is huge just having his name on your roster.

Greatest professional athletes of my lifetime

1. Tiger Woods
2. Michael Jordan
3. Wayne Gretzky
4. Mike Trout

The only young baseball player I've ever seen that can even sit in the same room as Mike Trout is Alex Rodriguez.

I guess Bryce is a Dummy. He left 50 Million on the table. And this reality.

Bryce Harper Is Signing With Phillies Against His Tax Adviser's Advice

Pennsylvania is one of the few states that includes a true signing bonus as allocable income, meaning a portion of that income is taxable to the state. Philadelphia, which has a higher tax rate than Pennsylvania, also includes signing bonuses as allocable income.

The beauty of baseball, from a tax perspective, is that so little of a player’s income is taxed to his team’s home state as compared with other sports. Most ballplayers pay taxes to their team’s home state on only about 40% of their income.

I agree but he's the best I have ever seen. I grew up watching Yaz, Aaron, Rose, etc but this guy is unbelievable.

The money is absurd but I believe the Angels just wanted to lock him up for the rest of his career. I am an Angel fan and my friends said he loved Cali so he may have never left, lol.

It seems in 5 years the annual income may not be highest. We shall see.

It will take a pitcher of Kershaw's caliber to get $40m/yr. It won't be Kershaw, as the dings are starting to add up on him, but a pitcher like him, young, lefthanded, dominant, 25 years old and proven, 6 years at $250M.

In the next 5 years? Maybe. Sooner than later? For sure.

As for the half a billion dollar contract. If it's not Aaron Judge, (I don't think Betts is the guy) he's not on the radar yet. But he's lurking out there at some elementary or junior high school in Florida or Texas or California. He's out there, and by 2035, he'll have signed a contract valued over $500,000,000.

Amazing. Thank you Curt Flood and Catfish Hunter
