It’s not just the drugs . The drugs are masking the real problems. NY Thunder was scratched multiple times . I believe the average starts in a career is down to 16 or so . Some of these flashy horses have holes in them a mile wide . Issues bred right into them from the previous generation. The substantial money comes in breeding a fast horse . The physical issues be damned .

This game constantly skirts the real reasons for problems and comes up with a million excuses or deflections. Not just with this issue but just about every issue that it deals with . Until one can be honest , look in the mirror and just admit the root cause . It just gets worse . Where big money will be lost or there is a “cost”. Good luck .

The newest BS move (excuse) is the track surface and people buy it . We live in modern times now, they know the depth of those tracks to the fraction of an inch . You got a health issue . Face it! A sound horse won’t need multiple injections to show up . Especially, in the short schedule they run now . Once you need constant meds, it’s too late .

I think that's part of the problem but I also think that trainers are using chemicals instead of giving horses time off when they need it. If you read the story on BH just posted on what happened with NY Thunder, it's pretty clear that he had issues that needed to be dealt with and never were. It's interesting that his trainer has a high rate of horse deaths per start. Some of it is breeding, some of it is training and some of it is irresponsibility with the horse's life that comes pretty close to criminal.

Very interesting piece. A long read that I don’t have time to summarize. Worth it

I summarized it very briefly in an earlier posting on this thread.

IMO the breeding industry has bred the life out of the game for well over 30 or so years.

Into Mischief shouldn't be getting bred to anybody, yet he is one of the biggest studs breeding right now.

No reason for Flightline or Justify to be bred for hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Faster, more brittle, and less sound is what we have. Horses running 6 times and going to the breeding shed.
