gill: pen WILL close and polly wanna wacino?

http://www.stateofcorruption.org/201...oodfellas.html

had to laugh at this part:

Reminds me of the scene from Goodfellas when Polly takes over a restaurant, runs up the bills, cashes out, and they light a match. The only difference in this story, the Feds light the match.

polly? really governor gill?

Penn Gaming just bought the Tropicana Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas for 360 million dollars.
It is possible that they are winding down their horse racing part of the business.

Just an offhanded opinion, but casino companies saw horseracing as a way of getting their foot in the door. Having to run the tracks was the necessary evil to getting the gambling license. Penn National bought Charles Town, got VLTs installed, and next thing you know it's a full blown casino. Massachusetts gave the casino license to the company that said they wouldn't run a race meet at Suffolk and not the one who promised to invest in modernizing the track. Iowa casino companies have petitioned to let them out from underneath having to support dog racing. The plan was never to save horseracing anywhere - it was to get the casino foothold where they could. They offered a dying industry a burst of sugar and they got the same result - a quick bump of energy followed by the crash.

Wonder if someone will buy the track?

And where would these trainers go if Penn closed its doors?

Penn National has been shrouded in corruption since I can remember. And Charles Town is not far behind. Racinos saved both tracks, but the greed at both places is overwhelming and the corruption increased. Reminds me of the plight of many Eastern seaboard tracks in the '70s.

By the way, that was "Paulie" in Goodfellas.

What is the general consensus here of this guy? Maybe I'm easily swayed, but he seems determined and believable.

Tracks like Penn and Chucktown should close. Followed by some others. Its the day and age of the simulcast. The Big tracks can bring in more horses that way and put up better cards.

some rather ominous words from mr gill at the end of today's message:

This is the most important video that I will ever make and may be the last one you see. I understood the risks. I miscalculated your resolve. I will accept what happens to me, because I know that I have done the best I could to make a difference.

hopefully he cleans up pen before these sinister nh forces shut him down....

I agree, I believe what he is saying. I know, he could be lying but I actually believe him. Hope he stays o.k.

I'm not going to get into a tizzy over an opinion piece.
