BRIS Charts

Can't get any of the alternative version, only traditional.
Anyone hear this was going to be discontinued?
I emailed BRIS about it. I prefer the alternative charts myself.

Having the same problem, Tom.

I was under the impression that it was a temporary issue. /?

For now, I've been using equibase charts, where you scroll to the bottom to see the 'running line preview'.

Stuff like this seems to happen around holidays. You'll probably have to call them. I don't know why they even have email. They either never read it or never do anything about it if they do.

Looks like they're trying to fix them but there are still a lot of races missing.

Was told it was an ongoing issue with no resolution in sight.

What are "alternative" charts? Is that the comma delimited version?

Alternative charts are the same as the "Running line" charts at Equibase.
They give the margin behind the leader at each call instead of the margin between each runner.
Each runners' line in the chart will look like their running line in the pp's

Yes, and IMO, that should be the default view, not the alternative view. I hated it when they made the default what I considered to be an alternative! I'd much rather see how far back from the leader a horse was, not how far behind the next horse he was. To get the lengths behind the leader you have to sum all the B/Ls of every horse that finished in front of the horse you're interested in, what a pain in the butt!

Agree. It hasn't been all that long that we've had a choice but I would much rather see the alternative view as the default view.

I tried the Archive Charts and you can view the alternate running lines but only one race at a time.
The whole card will not load.

I have them working now, both current and archive.
I like the Equibase format for charts, but they don't put in the whole test for the conditions for the race, a serious flaw, imho.

Especially now that we have so damned many poets and novelists writing races these days.

I agree. The so-called "alternative charts" are like an overhead view of the race. You can see if a field was all bunched up within 5 lengths, or strung out 13 lengths. Great to use for turf courses where the times are irrelevant (i.e. GP and AP, and courses that use "about" distances).

The overhead animation of the race from Trakus is really a good tool to watch and follow along with the charts.

I've been amazed by that since the beginning. Their site is a good resource for a lot of things... but for THE data source not to have complete race conditions in many of its result charts is astounding. Makes them unusable for me.

Getting negative vibes from BRIS about the fix for the alternative margin charts. It's pitiful. They've had these charts for at least the past 5 years and now all of a sudden, gone.

Hate to have to bookmark Equibase and start using their charts, but looks like churchill doesn't care to fix the problem.
