I felt for him. He was obviously in over his head (and the switch to Shoemaker clearly paid off).

But still, what a thrill for him, to be able to ride a horse like the Bid as a teenager.

And yeah, Spectacular Bid is by far the best horse I have ever seen run, and would have my vote as the best in American history.

I was there when he won the Laurel Futurity. It was like the other horses weren’t even there.
