You’re making the mistake that all that occurred in regard to the indigenous peoples occurred in a vacuum. Do you think that had they not been conquered or “wiped out” by the the first explorers or the U.S. government they would still be here? In the same places, living the same life?

Hell no, somebody else would have come along. The French, Spain? They were all out expanding their control over territories in North America. What happen to the Indians was inevitable. If the U.S. and it’s brethren didn’t do it, somebody else would have.

The Indians were a culture that was hundreds of years behind the rest of the world. No way were they to survive.

The myth of the noble savage is bullshit. They were a people disadvantaged for multiple reasons and nothing would have allowed them to somehow maintain control over huge swaths of North America.

Yesterday I entered payroll for 61 employees. I spend 13-15k a week on payroll, plus taxes etc. I have around 30 competitors within 2 miles. I know what just about all of them pay their staffs. I stay on top of it and I start and pay my employees $1-$1.50 an hour more than everybody else.

My competitors hang “now hiring” banners almost every day of the year. I did once in the last year, because we remodeled and expanded and needed more employees.

Tonight one of my managers took a call from one of my direct competitors public/office phone (caller ID) and it was an employee who stated he represented a group of 10 of their employees. They wanted to know if we would interview them as a group.

My wife declined (we only have one opening at the moment) because I don’t need this kind thing starting a hiring war in the area. The caller did ask us about our pay rates. My manager confirmed our pay rates but it was interesting to hear that the caller said the working conditions (kitchen and server) were the reason most wanted to leave. They work for a real asshole. We know him. He’s a dick. Lots of stupid rules and he yells more often than not. There are many facets of the market.

So don’t tell me the market is a myth. I live it, work it every day.

Workers with otherwise no power collectively negotiate with company. Company settles on prices that it can bear to pay. Workers negotiate/strike until they can no longer afford not to work. The two sides eventually settle upon a price. This is absolutely market driven. There are poor implementations of unions, for sure, but collective bargaining is not some type of socialism...

Most min wage jobs are not worth it. If you skill set is asking if you want fried with that, you had better be spending your time figure our why you are so damn useless.

A minimum wage job is not meant to be a career path.
