You sure? I'm going to guess the guy has more stuff than that to do? Especially at small tracks

Let me rephrase his MAIN job is to identify the correct horses are who the trainer and groom say they are. I'm sure he may have some other clerical or office type responsibilities but the one he's relied upon most was clearly ignored or poor examined.

The trainer throws him under the bus and clears himself .
Macfarlane ," I didn't bet on the race "-
Because no one ever makes a bet for a trainer
"I knew it was the wrong horse as soon as I saw the win photo" -
Because the horses are in disguise when I saddle them up .
Could be an honest bad mistake , What do we know,

Anyone know if this guy runs a small hands-on stable, or is it a big operation with an assistant trainer saddling these horses?

not so fast, the identifier checks horses going into the saddling paddock, the paddock judge checks them as they are being saddled. The right horse went in, just came out with the wrong #. I think it is the paddock judge at fault.

this is total BS. The trainer would know his own horse. The groom would know. The jockey most likely knew. Heck, some of the fans may have noticed. The paddock judge should have caught it. Then with the handle on the race being above the norm, there are people that are supposed to watch that.Everybody must have been in on it but the track management.
No excuse here.

There was only 800 or so bet on the horse to win. All other wagers paid well considering the two favorites ran underneath. He was the longest shot on the board by a large margin. He ws 29-1 and the 2nd longest price was 16-1 It does not appear that those involved bet the race or he would have been much lower odds

There must have been a flush of really, really late money because when he crossed the wire he was 25-1. When he pulled up he was 25-1. When he jogged back he was 25-1. When he met the groom, he was 25-1. Next thing I knew, he paid $60.

What i find interesting is why the jockey Chris Russell, who rode the "good one" 6 times in a row, didn't realize in the post parade that he wasn't warming up the horse he had ridden 6 times in a row, didn't realize he was being legged up on a different horse in the paddock either. To me, that seems strange. How is it possible he didn't know right away?
The race in question is the 7th race on March 28th.

Ordinarily this would upset me...but I have a hard time generating any sympathy for those who still insist on betting at Turf Paradise.

I am correcting myself He is McFarlane .
I only know he started 114 this year so far . Could be a good size barn .
Have no idea if he has an assistant . I suppose that will come up all in
good time . He has had some high profile owners too.
I can't say guilty or not but if he points the finger to the inspection of
the tattoo only . That's just wrong .He has to take some responsibility
and penalty . A whole lot of bettors were duped .

Agreed. I'll also add any thread title containing tracks: Penn Natty, MNR, or Charles Town.

I agree about the payoffs. When a coup like this occurs it is almost always bet off track where the money will not get into the pools. Too many people would have to be in on this to explain it away with gross incompetence.

Why would this happen at a track already on many people's list of corrupted places? Honest mistake.
