OBJECTIVES & RULES

OBJECTIVES

1. To accumulate the largest bankroll over time based on successful Win, Place or Show parlay wagers.
2. To increase our collective knowledge of handicapping, display sportsmanship and have fun!
3. To create awareness of various racing products and encourage wagering at sponsor tracks.

***

RULES

1. Wagers may be made at any thoroughbred race track in North America with posted entries and results in the Daily Racing Forum (www.drf.com).
2. Selections are allowed on race days from Wednesday to Sunday only unless specified otherwise. (ie. American & Canadian Holidays)
3. Each player begins with a $5.00 bankroll.
4. All subsequent bets are made with the original $5.00 bet plus profits.
5. All bets must be rounded down to the nearest full dollar value.
6. All breakage (profits greater than nearest full dollar) above the nearest full dollar value can be added to the winnings of subsequent plays.
7. A player may make a maximum of three bets per day. Each wager is a separate entity and can be to Win, Place or Show.
8. A player may post all three bets at the same time if he chooses, but they must be made in order of official listed post time.
9. A scratched selection counts as no action (no bet).
10. A cancelled race counts as no action (no bet).
11. A race with No Show Betting will count as no action (no bet) if the bet is a Show Wager.
12. All selections must be posted at least 1 minute prior to actual Post Time or they will not be scored. Entries are time stamped. An entry that is posted during the same minute as the race is officially off will not be scored.
12a. If a selection is posted in the last minute to post or late and it ends up being a "losing" selection it shall count against the player as his intention was clear.
12b. Edited selections will be scored in the same manner as presented in rules 12 and 12a.

13. If a selection ends up being No Action, the player may post a new selection to take its place.
14. An entry selection must be explicitly stated as such or the posted play will be scored as stated. (ie. Entry of #1 and #1A will be scored as such if posted as #1/#1A ~ if you post only part of the entry and that selection scratches, you will have no action (no bet) for that race.
15. Further to entries, if you post only part of the entry (ie. 1A) and the other half of the entry actually wins, places or shows, the player shall be awarded similar to what would take place at the race track. The purpose of the Entry Rule is to protect the player from late scratches.
16. If a player fails to declare Win, Place or Show, the play will automatically become a Win play.
17. It is recommended that when placing your bet, you state the number and name of the entry. The name of the entry will supersede the number in case of discrepancy.
18. A player must successfully parlay the original $5.00 wager over a minimum of three races.
19. Upon reaching the plateau of three successful Parlay bets, the Player can:
(a) Choose to “Parlay” and continue on with the Parlay, extending the length and value of the play;
(b) Or “Bank It”, thus locking in the value of the parlay into his Bank Account.
20. A player can continue to “Parlay” as long as he wishes, but if he doesn’t cash out prior to losing, all will be lost and he will have to return to the Bank and begin again.
21. When a player Banks the winnings his account balance will be credited with the full amount of all winnings including any breakage less the original $5.00.
22. At any point where a player’s parlay is broken (selection does not place as wagered) he will have to return to the Bank and begin a new parlay.
(a) His bank account will be debited the original $5.00 less any breakage he might have on balance.
(b) He may begin a new Parlay with $5.00.
23. All parlays are cashed out at the end of the contest.
24. The contest winner will be declared based on the largest increase in their Bank Account for the contest period.
25. A minimum of 30 selections during the contest period are required to be considered an official entry.
27. The moderator (Jay Trotter) or his designate will have the final say on any challenge or amendment to the rules. This is a fun contest intended to be played in good faith!
28. Only one entry per individual is allowed.

I'd like to thank Jay Trotter for giving Overlay Publications the opportunity to serve as a sponsor for both its own individual Parlay Challenge (the one just concluded, as well as the next renewal in 2011), and the new season-long "UPC Handicapper of the Year" competition. Good 'capping to all entrants in the coming year, and remember the "value" of those overlays!

when you say a max of three plays a day, I assume you mean three separate parlays of at least three plays each?

See the attached Score Sheet.

Click on Winners tab at bottom to see all the previous winners.

Click on Records tab at bottom to see the all-time contest records.

The contest has become tougher to win as time moves on.

No andi, you submit three individual race selections per day. These three plays form running parlays. So, say you miss your first play of the day, you still have two more plays to get things started. Hit those two plays and you would carry them forward to the next day's play to try and get three plays in a row at which point you can choose to "Bank" your profits or "Let It Ride" and grow your parlay.

Best bet might to be go back and follow a few players from the Contest 7 thread.

Ah, my bad. I didn't understand that the plays can flow into the following day. Now I get it. Thanks.

You enter the contest simply by posting your plays!

You need a minimum of 30 plays over the contest period to qualify for prizes and points, so you don't need to play every day.

I see the tabs at the bottom of the Excel sheet but for those that can't here are some of the stats:

All-Time Bank Total Record TurfRuler +$2,031.45
Largest Parlay Record TurfRuler $2,276.90 (3)
2nd Largest Parlay ndsc32 $999.50 (3)
Longest Parlay Record Hoof Hearted (21) $342.20
2nd Longest Parlay Jay Trotter (18) $179.35
Most Contests Won Eddy1 4 Wins
Most Contest Won plixie 4 Wins

Last Contests Win Totals

TurfRuler +$2,031.45
woodtoo +$693.85
ndsc32 +$637.20
Aner +$258.80
AgainstTheGrain +$306.40
Starlett +$51.25

Wed. Nov. 24

Good Luck everyone... I shall be the first out of the gate.

Since I will be occupied elsewhere for a while tomorrow I'll place my bets now.

Aqu R3) #1 Speightful Affair.....Show
Lrl R8) #3 Ben's Cat... Show
WO R1) Harmony Lane...Show

To all the newcomers... This is a good way to place your bets.
They are in the proper time order.
Names are included in case errors are made with race or horse numbers.
If any of the above get scratched... They can be replaced with another entry.

Once again..Good Luck and have fun!
