If this transgression actually took place, as a result of Kavanaugh's "teenage ignorance" in a distant past...then, why would he deny that it ever happened, in this, his "enlightened present"? Wouldn't this current false denial create doubt about the true character of a man who would be asked to rule upon crucial cases held in the highest court in the land?

In the formal legal world, a court case that is dismissed with prejudice means that it is dismissed permanently. A case dismissed with prejudice is over and done with, once and for all, and can't be brought back to court. A case dismissed without prejudice means the opposite. It's not dismissed forever.
There is absolutely no reason for "revenge".
