Purse cuts at CT and they give away this kind of money to outfits that will come in, win and not come back til next year...wonderful.
I hope SB's connections know how this track gets when it rains.....

Surely they set this race up to be the highlight of their season?
I'd say they hit the jackpot, at least as far as talent shipping in goes.

Of course it is the highlight but the amount of money given away is absurd. Im fine with a 400-500K race as a flagship event for the track. But 1.5M? Take the extra 1M and put it into year round purses. I think the bigger purse results from factors and motivations other than the overall well being of the track and horsemen who spend their time there year round.
Almost sure its the 18th and if so, the DRF may want to look into better editing.

I'm sure you're right about it being on the 18th.
It's always been on a Saturday.

Yeah, amazing that DRF can't get that right. Don't get me wrong, I am excited SB is coming and its a great get but giving away that kind of money at a track with some major purse issues on the horizon just smells bad to me.

It would be great if Bayern makes the race also.
It's probably going to be a strong field.

The downside in his coming might be that he scares some away.
Still, for that kind of money, he should get some good competition.

He may....the guys on TVG made a great point before he ran last time that he doesn't do his best running around turns so the extra one may hurt him a bit. Very surprised that a horse with questionable feet is being brought to CT. The track's surface is always a point of discussion it seems and when it rains, it is awful.

Really? I wasn't aware. Would they scratch in the slop?

I would not run my horse on a bull ring. No matter how large the purse.

How does a race get a grade one rating? It obviously doesn't have anything to do with purse.

CT probably the best choice for SB, but I'm a little disappointed the Oaklawn talk did not materialize. I would have liked an opportunity to lay eyes on him up close and personal.

Guess it's a pure money-making move. His feet, the bullring, and the fact that "CT Classic" doesn't exactly gets breeders' hearts racing all are negatives, but that ridiculous purse wins out.
