The Vosburgh
What this game is all about..
what really caught my attention were the owners hugging the
place horse minutes before the race....
Nominating this race as one of the most exiting race(s) this year...

Great race.
Imperial Hint was done. Especially after such a huge race last out, he was supposed to fold up shop, and with a furlong to go, that is what was gonna happen.
Nope. He re-rallied and was not gonna be denied. Amazing efforts in his last two. 100% sure now that Imperial Hint is back and a massive player in the BC Sprint.

You see how much Saratoga depends on other horses shipping in to create some of the dynamic stakes races they have, the rest of the year NY is just like everywhere else.

Agreed, it was a good race, but still it didn't inspire any excitement in me because we all knew it would come down to those two.
The short fields in NY (and everywhere else) has slowly driven my interest away from racing.

Yes, good card - I prefer night racing myself.
As far as NYRA goes, enjoy it now - once the turf courses close for the year, it will be slim pickins for 5 months.

The Vosburgh exacta paid $3.30. I was legitimately trying to remember a shorter one but I couldn't. I'm sure I've seen one, but I don't remember it. I didn't have to wait long to top it. The Beldame paid $2.90.

Pretty sad.
If this is the price of "quality" racing, give me nickle claimers any day.

Races featuring 5 mules should be back at Fresno in a few days.

The supposed biggest day of the Belmont Fall Championship meet and....
The all sources handle was a paltry $14 million.
Horses to the gate 81. 11 events . Avg per event 7.3...Not horrible
But the graded stakes races? 4 events. 23 went to post. Avg a hair over 5 per.
Not good. That's usually where the bulk of the handle goes. Not Saturday.
My argument that there are simply too many Graded races. Too many tracks scheduling graded races with slots fueled purses.
Connections can scour the track websites look in the Horsemen's section and find so called graded stakes with half million dollar purses which draw fields of horses which should be in NW2X.
Its a joke.
Maybe I just long for the "good old days" where important fall meets got all the good horses that due to the special-ness of then Graded Races HAD to face other really good horses. Trainers and owners didn't have much choice. Either run your horse vs the best in training or get shunted aside for post season honors and lose value in future breeding opportunities.
Now when I see those commercials of print ads that say "Winner of the Grade (X) Blue Ball Semi Prix Stakes" standing at Shady Acres Farm, I want to spit up beer.
Or do I owe everyone an apology?
