Have YOU been playing this game long?
You tone in a prior post gave the impression that you were one of the "youngsters" around here.

Hey I didn't call anyone names....I warned some were starting to act that way....and yea I couldn't agree more January and February could possibly be the worst horse months of the year....gulfstream isn't what it once was either....some may argue it's better than ever but I don't see it that way

I don't see Emerald going away. Yes, I am biased . They may become the 2nd tier track on the west coast after GG says goodbye.

The have casino money so near term they are fine.
I'm convinced with a few exceptions like SoCal any track without casino $$ will be gone within the decade.

They are a unique example.
They don't have slots. The Tribe pays them some peanuts per race, which comes out to so little but that forced that track to market and focus on horseracing.
What a unique concept, right? Field sizes up. Handle up 33% over 2 years ago. Great product too. Only thing missing is HDTV but Phil said they might consider that soon.

The tribe would tell you its far from peanuts. They get seven figures in free money. Canterbury has more or less the same deal. And oddly enough both of them have some highest handle growth the last couple years?
Why? Because when you're not spending 80% of you time and money either running a casino or trying to get one you can actually create a successful racing product.

And on the flip side, if you can be one of the tracks to do just enough right and weather the storm without casino infusion, you probably payout jackpot when the casino schemes all fall apart everywhere around you.

I like my Emerald, EXACTLY the way it is. I don't want those superjuicers invading and stupid prima dona jocks coming over.
It is the PERFECT product as is.
With that said, I'll probably be enjoying my last year of EMD as it is

When is Emerald going? Is there any other racing in or around Seattle if Emerald is not going? I ask because I have to travel to Seattle for work March 8th - 10th. Was debating staying until the 11th if there was any live racing.

You are a month early, I believe. Pretty sure they start the first or second week of April.

If they are lucky. It sounds iffy already that HST will be ready for opening day later in April - we have had one of our worst winters in 30+ years. HST was 2 weeks late in opening for spring training, they've only been able to use the outer portion of the track at a gallop, etc.
Not sure how much better/worse Seattle fared with the weather, but I wouldn't be surprised if they struggle to get going as well
