To me, race callers are kind of like brands. Brands don't just magically appear. They develop over a period of time by delivering consistent high quality and good value. Customers will know what to expect and trust they are going to get a good product and value. When a race caller gets to the point where his unique voice and catch phrases become part of your expectation for a call, he has become a brand and great race caller that has become part of the sport.

So you're saying the question becomes one of, "Whodoyoulikehere???"

Not disagreeing - there's also a yin and yang here. We all remember particular race calls. Chic Anderson with the "tremendous machine" call re Secretariat is one of mine. The "freight train" call re Forego. Etc.

But it took the combination of a performance on the track plus the race caller having a good day.

Counter evidence is the "The Wife Doesn't Know" versus "My Wife Knows Everything" call by Larry Collmus. That was epic in its own right. As I said upthread, I have no problem with Collmus - just think we've seen unfair stuff re John Imbriale.

Everyone hates lawyers - until they need one. Which they often do.

I couldn't pick dilanesp out of a lineup and have argued with him on this very thread, but to pick on him because he's a lawyer is looking for cheap points.

I think people are looking for explanations why he likes to argue things he clearly has no knowledge of. Lawyers can win arguments where they are totally wrong and have no logical basis in fact because they argue it the right way and get a couple people to agree. It often feels like that's what dilanesp does here. He gets proven wrong and then goes on for 50 more posts figuring he'll wear you down like in a court of law and get a hung jury.

He's not the only lawyer who posts on this site FWIW. There are many, from what I've read here.

He may want to win every single argument, which isn't possible in the real world when you need facts to prove your case ultimately. Which I've never thought he's had about the reason for John Imbriale moving on to a different role, to bring this back full circle.

As long as we are talking about lawyers, I think hearsay is typically inadmissible in court, but I'm less certain about the rules for forums.

I don't think he's making things up. I think he's repeating what he has heard from others, but it could be incomplete or incorrect information.

Kind of fun, going from arguing about John Imbriale to arguing about how we argue!

This isn't arguing, it's contradiction!

Oh I'm sorry, is this a five minute argument, or the full half hour?
