Wives and gambling

What do your significant others think about your passion for horseracing? My wife has become more conservative over the years (if that's possible), security conscious and all that, and is not as gung ho for my betting. Before we married we attended two Kentucky Derbies together. After the ball and chain was applied my trips to the track were less frequent. When Arlington Park burned downed years ago my wife said it was an answered prayer. (I had hoped that she hadn't set the fire.) Now she complains about my collection of old forms and the time I spend on the computer. I think that it has negatively affected my handicapping skills. Any advice for this handicapper on how to improve my wife's appreciation for the Sport of Kings?

If you win and share the proceeds, the bitchin' turns to support. If you ain't and you can't afford an expensive hobby, you got it coming. If the missus sees horse racing as a rat hole to pour your money down...take up golf, there's a nice cheap hobby hehehe

Do you contribute to the support of this woman?
I have been married for nearly 40 years to a man who has been kind enough to support me.
I consider myself very lucky.
If your wife supports you, well.......maybe she has a right to complain about your gambling........maybe.
If not..........she needs to get over this...........first of all betting on horses is a great hobby. How much does it cost to do other things? Lots.
At least at the track, you have a shot to come out ahead.
My husband likes to go to Las Vegas 4 times a year to play poker.
I don't care for Las Vegas, but I sure encourage him to go and enjoy himself.....the man works all year to support me....he deserves to do whatever he pleases.
The problem with most marriages is that one or both partners think they can control the other person.......people need to realize they are NOT ANOTHER'S HIGHER POWER.
Do your own thing, and let others do theirs.

Didn't get married until I was 50. Diane knew of all my vices. (horses and 21) She never complains. Matter of fact she encourages me to go to the races or to a casino. If she goes with me she bets $2.00 to show on the first race, if her horse finishes OTM that is it!

Only House Rule is: "No 3rd mortgages!"

Not to get hooky but -- Best winner I ever picked.

I can relate one thing between my wife and my dog.

For you dog owners, you know how your dog could be upstairs and you are 2 floors down in the basement and you open a bag of chips and all you hear is 4 paws hauling ass down the steps? That is my wife everytime I hit a signer.

Its unreal. She can be at the mall and somehow she just gets a feeling and shows up at the track.

I took Dick Schmidt's advice in a earlier thread. I hand my wife a crisp $100 bill every so often and tell her to buy something for herself. My horse racing addiction doesn't seem to be an issue lately. Thanks Dick

Isn't it funny how its an 'addiction' when you lose and its 'honey, I know you enjoy it' when you give her money??

When my wife wins at the slot machines she always gives me half. Oncs she asked why I didn't respond in kind. I answered, "Honey, horse money is SACRED money. You don't just give it away, you must bet with it."
