Voided Claims

You see this notation in the PP's more and more. Why are they voided?

Is it soundness?

Today, Andy Sterling made a point on Talking Horses. This information should be disclosed. If you want, watch todays show, and listen to the 4th race, and the comments.

If the horse breaks down or the track vet considers the horse lame after the race, the claimant has the option of voiding the claim. The claim could also be voided for administrative violations such as improper licensing or not having proper funds on account. It varies track to track for both things..

There was a horse running at AP this year or maybe last for Larry Rivelli who had multiple voided claim lines in his PPs. But he kept winning with him.

Andy is precious but it is Serling.

There are so many reasons claims can be voided, but I would say usually it is the vet voiding it due to soundness. There can be other reasons like paperwork, licensing, etc.

It would be interesting to see how those horses do next start from an ROI standpoint. I view it as a negative, but not a total toss or anything next time. If the vet allows these horses to run after the voided claim, maybe there has been improvement.

I can't speak for tracks throughout the country but in the Mid-Atlantic area a voided claim in the PP's is due to soundness issues as determined by the vet. Administrative or funding issues are uncovered prior to the claim being approved.

Usually if you go back in the charts it will say if a claim was voided for vet or admin reasons. I was very confused to see that horse in the 4th yesterday come back so soon after a voided claim & with no workouts since, until I saw the claim was void for admin purposes.

reasons you can void a claim vary from state to state. Before you put too much stock in this check the rules in the state of the track you are playing. Some places it is very rare to see a voided claim and other places it is more common.
