The thing that most astounds me is the tax-funded helicopter pad for the Amazon executives. I mean...if this were a team of open-heart surgeons who have to make emergency trips in order to save lives...then I could see the point of this extravagant expense. But these are a bunch of guys who run an online RETAIL company. Where do they have to get to in such great haste?

Hats of to our esteemed governor of the Hate State of New Yawk....the dishonorable Baby Mario of the Cuomo crime family.
Dumbest, crookedest POS in NY.
I pray that this dipstick spends lots of time in the upper floors of NYC sky scrappers.

The article linked in the OP says that the $48,000 figure is not cash or spending, it is $1.5 billion in tax credits over 10 years. In exchange, Amazon is creating jobs that will generate an additional $10 billion in taxes over 20 years.
Let's see, $10 billion in taxes minus $1.5 billion in tax credits is....?
If Bezos can get that kind of tax break, more power to him. If the taxpayers of NY put up with it, that is their choice. If Bezos fudged the numbers and NY doesn't get that kind of tax increase, shame on the government. I don't live there and I don't care.
I also find no reference anywhere to NY building a helipad. I found the following, which sounds like the government will pull strings and cut red tape. A helipad in Queens will make the city that much more unlivable, but that is their problem.
Quote:
The state Urban Development Corporation, the city Economic Development Corporation and the mayor’s office will help Amazon “secure access to a helipad on the Development Sites,” states the memo, dated yesterday (Nov. 12). If for some reason they can’t, officials say they will help the company get one “in an alternative location in reasonable proximity to the Development Sites” in Long Island City, where Amazon intends to build one of its two new headquarters.

That is sure a lot for not caring.
This is NYS - we will get screwed on this.
Bet on it.
Baby Mario will get a skim north of 50%.

Can't they just land a helicopter on top of their new building, like Die Hard?

When business get tax breaks, the taxes are still paid.
By private citizens.
