Pimlico R5 4-4

A horse breaks down, doesn't fall, and the rider just jumps off. It looked really bizarre. This guy just catapulted himself out of the saddle. Maybe just trying to get the weight off or something?

I'm not knocking the guy at all. I'm just curious why he would do that. Seems like usually riders try to stop the horse at least.

Your right CJ, most jockeys do attempt to pull up their mounts. Maybe in this case his reaction was just to bail and get out of the way. Jocks have told me that pulling up a horse going bad is a lot tougher that it looks. Who knows, maybe he had a bad incident pulling up one in the past, and he felt this was his safest way out. Did look bizarre though...

I agree most good riders pull up their horses in distress . Cooper River
never had a chance last month being ridden most of his race , so
wrong .
I don't know what happened in this case .

Was down on the apron for this incident and it wasn't pretty.....I was at ground level and it was a weird situation

Within 4 minutes there was the gate tarp ambulance and horse ambulance all covering up the situation......it looked for certain the horse was going to be euthanized

An hour later in the dining room I overheard a conversation the next table over between very knowledgable horsemen that the horse "may actually be ok"

A side note off topic to the situation but not really off topic I guess is why card turf races when u gonna pull them even if it doesn't rain? This was a sked turf race
