Spanish speaking Announcer at NYRA
Luis Grandison debuts at Aqu today as the first Spanish speaking race caller in America.
Folks on track can tune into a channel that gives the Spanish call. English calls will still the be primary voice at the trackand on TV, but this is a neat offering for those with Spanish as a first language.
I understand that there are options for hearing the Spanish call in home as well for those who have RTN.
Congrats to Luis and NYRA...good move imo.

Excellent move IMO, California tracks should follow. Maybe Mandarin too.

If I read correctly, the first race will be called only in Spanish as a sort of intro for Grandison.
EDIT: and while I'm lauding NYRA...props to the person who edits their site.
Grandison's name was misspelled under his picture and it is now corrected

How about a Jamaican Patois speaking announcer? That would be a trip!

As long as I don't have to "press 1" for English this is a good idea. The day I have to "press 1" to hear a horse race in the US in English I'm moving to Australia.

Reportedly he was trained by Durkin on the art of race calling, but the language barrier was a pretty big obstacle. I translated the first race and Grandison said "the two Derby winners hit the wire together" at the half-mile pole, so clearly they still have some fine tuning to do.
