Sad as it is Randall is right, the reality is technology and the evolution of the game is changing the playing field. In the future probably like 10 tracks will be running. Right now in Lexington KY people are buy horses like they understand that, that's reality it's not pretty, but that's the way it is.......

People buying horses in Lexington aren't planning on running them at Mountaineer or Thistledown or Zia Park, I don't believe.

The pie is getting smaller, and there isn't enough of it to go around...THAT'S what's putting these people out of work.

Look at the game as it's played all around you, and ask yourself if the trainers give a shit about the horseplayer...as they parade these 5-horse fields to post in race after race. The trainers love the short fields because they increase the chances of collecting a sizable purse, and they stick to them...even though the horseplayers hate them. It's nothing but greed. But guess what...the HORSEPLAYERS are allowed to be greedy too. And we want LARGE MUTUEL POOLS...because these pools serve our OWN selfish needs. And if the only way to get these large mutuel pools is to close down certain tracks...well, so be it.

The horsemen don't care about us...so, it should be okay for us to repay the favor. Like the man said..."never underestimate the OTHER GUY'S greed".
So basically what your saying is, 2 wrongs make it right? Of course everyone is greedy, that problem is much bigger than horse racing and a conversation for another day.

If the tracks are going to eat themselves alive, then so be it. But no one should be put out of business because your unhappy. If your unhappy with the horsemen, don't play the races. If you don't like the service at a restaurant, you don't go back...

Think about the people that have nothing to do with the actual racing. The person who sells the programs, the food, the poor guy that's gonna clean the bathroom, the security, the cashiers. You guys wanna put all these people out of work so you can make a few more bucks on your exacta, makes you no better than the horsemen.

You may just be right and I do agree to an extent, but let it happen naturally.

How?

The same way any successful business is grown:

Identify and satisfy customer needs and wants!

Here's link to an ESPN article about Kentucky Downs titled No settling at Kentucky Downs:

The above article was published on Sept 6, 2014.

For those of you who might not know, this past Saturday (Sept 13, 2014) Kentucky Downs did something that would have been unthinkable a few years ago. They out-handled both Churchill Downs and Southern California:

.
how about they improve their crap signal now?

I don't WANT to be better than the horsemen. What I want, is a higher-paying exacta.

Can't close the Royal Mountaineer Hippodrome: It's a cult track with many loyal followers.

And if a buisness is failing badly.....the logical thing would be for it to close.

I dont want to see anyone lose their job,but why should racetracks be different than any other buisness?

I'm with you. But these guys want it closed for they're benefit. Like they are someone special. If the race tracks closes on it's own, then so be it. But if you don't like the way the do things, just simply don't give them your money.

in the suffolk situation those people can get similar jobs at wynn that will be year round and most likely pay better.

in most of these situations horsemen never seem to want to work together with management to make the product more competitive with other forms of gambling (26% exactas?) and that is why there is animosity from players who see the potential that this form of gambling has.

I play a lot of these small tracks and would love nothing more than to see them booming with action.
There is even a race at Tdn tomorrow that I have no bet....but the fan(degenerate?) in me might still wanna watch cause i actually want to see what happens.
There has to be a way to promote this game better than the status quo.
