Big Bang may not have happened.
This just in. The big bang may not have happened. Apparently the quantity of certain elements observed does not match what the big bang theory predicts. If so then the universe may be in a steady state, as Einstein originally predicted, and the universe may be infinitely old.

And that would have zero impact on ours lives if we did know.

Yep……since I’m in my 60’s now I think I have seen this headline about ten times over my lifetime
“ Oldest ever human fossil found”
Each time they declare a new find absolutely the oldest and never to be eclipsed……..
Of course then………

"Settled science" is anything that I can determine affects me now, or has a high probability of affecting me in the near future. Anything else is idle speculation.

Wow! Earth-shaking news...almost.
Now we just gotta wait for a headline that says: "New Evidence Suggests Evolution May Never Happened."

As a former Anthropology Major, I have never seen the term "never to be eclipsed" in any reputable anthro text.

History is full of examples of "settled science" that turned out not to be true. A geocentric universe was once settled science.
Meanwhile the "big bang never happened" hypothesis is in peer review and may be for quite some time.

That's likely to be a very long wait. There is evidence for the "big bang never happened" hypothesis. I know of no evidence counter to evolution.

You atheists crack me up! When Lemaitre first introduced the Big Bang concept in 1927 atheists were weeping with joy and dancing in the streets because they had their "proof" that God didn't create the Universe like the Bible said. Then in the early 1950's the Catholic church proclaimed that "yes, that is how God started it all, through the Big Bang." So what happens? The atheists from that moment on started to panic and decided the Big Bang was not compatible with how it all got started and have since tried in vain to disprove it. So here we are once again with another cooked up far fetched desperation idea that the Big Bang didn't happen. Why don't you guys give it up! Based on inflation the Universe had an absolute beginning and has an absolute end.
Also, keep pushing the insane Big Crunch crap as how the Universe will end, you know, the stupid notion that the Universe will cave back into itself and start the process all over again when it is clear that the Big Freeze is how it all ends. One last thing since you brought up Einstein, he said this about the Big Bang.
"This is the most beautiful and satisfactory explanation of creation to which I have ever listened." He was a believer, maybe you should join the club of rational thinkers and put away the belief that the Universe is infinitely old and God had no part in it.
