What is an AR-15 style rifle? I have never heard any other weapon used as a reference point, like the AR-15.

People mistakenly believe the knock on this style is about its semi automatic feature. But, we had that feature even in the old west. You could get 6 shots out of a six shooter without manually reloading. You only needed to pull the trigger repeatedly.
The real difference is that with this style, muzzle velocity is much greater and the projectile is able to inflict more damage to a body.

That was somewhat of a smart ass question. So the term now is used on any rifle that is semi-automatic, has a detachable magazine and holds cartridges with a long case. Or is it the appearance of the weapon?
