is Medina Spirit 3 year old of the year? I suspect some won't vote for him.

Not too many horses are both that fast and can go 10F.
Congratulations to the HOTY.

I don't want to debate that question, but I think he's clearly a very good 3yo. The whole thing was a terrible shame because none of it was the horse's fault. He was better than the other two again today.

Essential Quality or Life is Good vastly overshadow, but there may be others (not Medina Spirit, but others I can't recall), my brain is closed for the weekend.

i have to re-watch today, as I stopped after the break and lack of pressure to be able to assess today's race.
Essential Quality was better in the Kentucky Derby than Medina Spirit. (handicapping, not by voter's, results oriented)

I would vote for him for the reasons you state.

Why wasn't he raced at the classic distance before this race? That's the biggest problem with American Racing. To much money and status is given to a horse without proving themselves. If you want to know the truth, that's why Baffert is revered. He runs his horses in races like this until they prove themselves otherwise. Trainers like Cox and Pletcher are sucking the sport dry...

Off all the prominent horsemen I've dealt with behind the scenes, Cox takes my "nice guy" cake. Believe it or not, the man is even MORE humble and real when nobody is watching. Bravo. All good things to you, Mr Cox.

Think about how much status will be given to Life is Good after his win in the mile... Think about it. He's gonna win two 1 1/8 mile races this winter and spring worth millions of dollars while he's an unproven at the real test 1 1/4 mile. Why are those races just as important as the Derby at 1 1/4 mile... the Classic at 1 1/4 mile? We're being conned

In his interview after the classic he seemed more worried about his horse owned by Godolphin than the horse that just won the classic. I guess he knows where his bread is buttered.

Medina Spirit is unquestionably the three year old horse of the year. To not give it to him would be a travesty. He beat Essential Quality and Hot Rod Charlie twice, in the two biggest races. He beat them going to the front and catching them both from behind. Also, he has beaten older horses, something the other two have not. Not even close as too who gets it.
