Most people have no idea how wildly popular the Martin and Lewis comedy team was in their heyday. Their popularity predates most of us. The break up of the team was a shock wave that vibrated from coast-to-coast.
The ironic thing of the breakup was that most people thought that Dean Martin, the straight man of the duo, would fade away while Jerry Lewis would continue to roll.
However, while Lewis remained popular, Martin became a superstar.
Seemed to me that most of Jerry Lewis' movies were very funny through the first half of the movies, then faded late. His muscular dystrophy telethon was a Labor Day extravaganza for decades.
Ah well, 91 years is a great ride.

Martin and Lewis were GREAT!
They were in the audience of the Jack Benny Show one night, and he asked to take a bow - well, the took over the stage! Hilarious stuff. I looked for them every night on TV.
 Jerry - you helped a lot of kids and made a lot more smile!
btw, did you know he inspired the Kenny Rogers song "Lady?"

They get away with it by saying "who sold the most records"
There's been at least five different ways of counting that over the years.........of course I cringe every time I hear that the highest selling group of all time is "ABBA"
Btw, Dean Martin is my fav and I listen to him often. I love being able to just ask my Amazon Echo to play Dino when I enter the shower. If you don't have one, they are great fun and actually becoming quite useful

I hope TCM plays a bunch of Jerry Lewis movies. Some of those scenes make me cry with laughter. What a brilliant physical comedic actor he was.

I'd like to see a repeat of the 2002 made-for-tv movie "Martin & Lewis." It was the only effort I ever saw that DID NOT portray Jerry Lewis as the bad guy of the pair.
I thought Sean Hayes did a great job portraying Jerry Lewis. I think Sean Hayes is a great actor with great range playing all kinds of parts. Most of us first saw him as a regular on Will and Grace, but he really nailed it as Larry in The Three Stooges movie.

One of the earliest of scat singers, Louis Prima was also the writer of the definitive big-band era song of the late 1930s, the sensational Sing, Sing Sing, a song that elevated the role of a drummer thanks to Gene Krupa's great drum solo.
Here's two of my favorite Prima songs, done in a way only Louis could do, Basin Street Blues and Sleepy Time Down South. Enjoy.

Love Lewis as Nutty Prof... Buddy Love character reputedly "real" Jerry Lewis, which makes cool movie 10x cooler..lampshade scene in which he and college Dean can't keep composure is pure gold...
