Well it sure seems the land will go up for sale after the 2021 season. Rivers Casino is 14 miles away. No track to support. Financially, it makes sense, I guess.
Hawthorne, with it's own new casino breaking ground after the 1st of the year, will surely get all of the dates at some point in time. Their harness meet will go to the new track wherever that goes up (Tinley Park is the front runner).

Not an Arlington move, but a Churchill move.
I predict the Chicago Bears will be playing on that land after all.

Disappointing, but not surprising. A consultant hired by the Illinois gaming board recently concluded even a casino built in the city of Chicago would not be feasible due to the tax structure of the new gaming bill.

Churchill runs a business, i can't blame them at all for not applying for this license to lose money for their shareholders. every public company should be as sharp as these guys.

If I were the owner of Arlington...then I wouldn't apply for a gaming licence either. There are slot machines in practically every eating establishment in the Chicagoland area...and a full-blown casino would adversely affect the nearby CDI-owned Rivers Casino in Des Plaines. When Arlington needed the gaming licence, the Illinois politicians denied granting it...and now it's much too late, IMO. It's about time the Illinois politicians faced an adversary who is just as greedy as THEY are.

Politicians aren't the only ones to blame. The problem seems to be that Churchill isn't happy with the purse subsidies they would be required to pay.
They are majority owner of one casino in the state and are reported to be frontrunners for another casino near the Wisconsin border. Sell the track to someone who cares.

Funny that Hawthorne and Fairmount will still pursue the gaming at their tracks.

If Arlington goes can the Illinois derby join the Kentucky Derby points trail?
