You are a tad too sensitive...IMO. I'm not "confronting you"...I'm just trying to lighten up the conversation during some very distressing times. Will it help if we all just hang our heads and weep for the future?

I think we are likely close to where where Italy was a few weeks ago. Community spread with a limited but rising number of reported new cases.

FWIW, until we develop a vaccine I think the disease itself will be with us for a while.

But because it's a pandemic and because it peaked in both China and South Korea (based on reporting of new daily cases) I also think the initial shock - the next 60 days or so before it peaks in the US - will be the worst part.

After that I predict a return to some semblance of normal life.

I wasn't talking about the virus. I was talking about society...and the economy...the ramifications and unintended consequences of the drastic actions being taken, unseen in my lifetime, to a pandemic, which I have seen in my lifetime.

More people are going to end up committing suicide over the economic hardships that are guaranteed to come if we keep going down this road, then will ever be killed by this virus itself.

They're the ones who demand answers of me all the time whenever I post something. Go ask them why they are bothered.

Crushes our chess business. It's currently generating more than double the annual earnings of what my wife ever earned as a math teacher. On a track to quadruple that in 18 months

As of right now, we lost 1 of the 5 weekly afternoons / evenings due to rec center closing. We fully expect to learn tomorrow all classes will be closed. We have a scheduled tournament coming next weekend, we'll have to refund over 2k in registrations & lose even more off walk ups.

This will also likely end interest in our summer camps (which generate a ton of cash). Hurts all around.

We're prepared and we'll get over it. Everyone just needs to settle down

I was actually talking about all of it... the virus... the economy...temporary loss of production... shortages...civil unrest/looting in the hardest hit areas.

I'm seeing a quarter of short term pain and lots of it.

Economically, picture a hurricane, but on a much larger scale.

Worst case scenario - people ignore all the warnings and we get an Italy.

Best cases scenario - people heed most of the warnings and we get a South Korea.

Either way, people are resilient.

After the virus peaks I see a recovery.
