I write hand-written notes, but the most worthwhile ones may not be easily transferred to software. My most rewarding notes are the ones that I gather on the peculiar betting action that I see. Since trainers -- like all of us -- are creatures of habit...I try to find if certain trainers like to use certain jockeys, when the "money is down".

Thaskalos,

This is precisely the kind of notes I need to figure out how to store and find.

PLEASE - share as much as possible.

Wow, have things progressed since 2016!

Now we have ChatGPT doing crazy stuff with words.

Notes that would a useful addition

Incorporating the workout reports into the workout lines
Expensive but the guys who produce them would have another income stream.

Incorporating the paddock notes (e.g.. Maggie at NYRA) into the running lines
Expensive but the guys who produce them would have another income stream.

Incorporate the 'They said it' feature from Trainer, Jockey Interviews pre and post race.
Difficult to do but possibly a task AI could accomplish.

Incorporate Vet Scratches, Stewards Reports into horse or race reports
example steward report from Saturday (UK) you need to click on the stewards report link. https://www.britishhorseracing.com/r...s/#!/2023/1889

Incorporate mto's and ae's into the pp's.
It would be interesting to know whether a horse in an off turf race was an mto or had stayed in.

The work needed to do any of this would be of elephantine proportions
Also the costs would be substantial but maybe the big players would be prepared to pay.

Perhaps I didn't make it clear enough.

I am asking about notes that YOU would make - like "Didn't run well," "Jockey didn't persevere," etc.

Classie,

So, you like the computer generated notes for each race.
Do the CompGen notes actually become part of your notes?
If so, how is that done? Copy/paste or something else?

Do the CompGen show with your personal notes?
Do you do anything special when you disagree with CompGen?

Please help me to understand the flow as best as possible.
1. I import PPs and Charts into my database for all the major tracks and any race cards that had major stakes on them.

2. I run a series of Queries against that data once a week (on Mondays). These queries calculate and store many metrics I use for handicapping and studying.

These are the Computer Generated items from my own database that I import into the PPs:

a. Pressure Pts - expected early pressure in the race
b. Speeds - number of front runners in the race
c. Chart - describes whether the race favored the front, back, or was neutral
d. Class Rating - looks at the PPs of the horses that were in the field and generates a Class Rating for the field (only done for Graded Stakes)
5. Beyer Par (only done for Graded Stakes)

3. This data gets generated into the text file format required by Formulator and then is manually imported into Formulator by me.

Manual

1. RF- After I review all the data, including CJ's pace figures, I put a note into Formulator on what I think the race flow was

2. Bias - After I review all the computer generated data and watch the replays I put a bias note into Formulator

3. Horse level trip notes - After I review the replays, I add in any ground loss, trouble, or other relevant notes about the horse's trip.

The computer stuff is done for all the major tracks.

The manual stuff is only done for Graded Stakes, some other key stakes, and any other races I have time for.

Here are Arcangelo's PPs going into the Travers. You can see my notes.

This is really excellent.

Seems like Formulator has a good notes system.
______________
I'm really interested in the manual stuff because I've got to figure out how to store and fetch it back.

Just about any database has some sort of memo or text field. I don't know how you do your data but that could be of use. I used to input notes along with the horses data. Using key words allows you to adjust your values.

My new software is finished under the hood but now I am working on getting the actual user interface together. The two things that are foremost on my agenda are PERSONAL NOTES and a very advanced TICKET WRITER.

Jay,

Would you ever consider notes that tracked "how you felt about a particular race or bet?"
Example:
Confidence level
5=Excellent
4=Good
3=Average
2=Fair
1=Poor
0=No clue

Questions
(all on this 0 to 5 score)

Thinking more like what level I bet the race.

5=Highest % of Bankroll
and so on.

Early Pace:
How much 1st call pressure?
Winner will be early?
Winner will be late?

Yes, this.....exactly.

Odds
Fav is beatable?
Longshot race?

Sort of should be reflected in how you are betting the race, % of Bankroll.

These are not great words, and the list could go on and on, but things like this could serve multiple purposes, such as model building from comments and also learning.

0=No clue or "this race is between 4 lamas, 2 mules and either 1 goat or sheep, I will have to see in the Post Parade.

Thoughts?
