Where to sell great idea for new bet

After following the "stock market" discussion here, I was talking about it with my young adult son who came up with a great idea for a bet that he and his friends would find appealing.

So, if he actually wanted to make money on his idea, and possibly pursue employment in this direction, what would you advise him to do? What steps and/or contacts would you advise him to pursue?

The idea is appealing to me, and I think it would work, but it's his idea, so I wouldn't be comfortable disclosing it here. I'd like to give him some ideas on how to pursue this, if he wanted. If he were your son, what would you advise?

So if the idea came from the stock market discussion, i think i'm entitled to half.

'racing" has passed up many amazing ideas....they just won't put them into play...the "horsemen" need their cut, so anything that benefits the bettors usually just goes out the window, nobody cares really about the bettors, its all about what the game can do for the owners, trainers and jocks.

If your idea puts money into the pockets of the horse owners, trainers, jocks or track owners, than maybe people will listen. If its an idea that could put money into the customers pockets, forget it. Nobody is apt to accept an idea unless there's something in it for them.

If it were me, I would research how a new casino game gets marketed to the casinos.

I am not familiar with the entire process, but I would say that it is far from trivial, so be prepared.

Whatever you think and believe is absolute truth and nothing else matters.Getting peripherally educated is mandatory.Beyond that eliminating people and influence from your reality is of utmost importance. The lack of faith in today's player is a direct influence from people who's time has come and gone. They are not the wise men. They are the albatross!Cut them off immediately!

Unless a lawyer agrees to do it as a percentage of future gains (with that % being less than 5%) do not waste your time with lawyers..

Sometimes one idea leads to better ideas.. so that places to look for would be to try pitching it in Idea pitch competitions or Hackathons (google that).. these are like web/app development competitions. You may feel you are risking it by putting your idea in the public, but it will benefit your son more in the long run.. ...

Of course, you can fully develop it and then take it to funding organizations too..

another place to try this would be at angel.co

I see the possibility for employment, but it's not a way to make money other than that in my opinion. It is certainly a way to impress the right people.

So, that being said, approach a track that is known for trying new things. Look at the smaller tracks, or even better, harness tracks, because they're the ones doing the innovating right now. Find the right person, and they'll listen. The guys at Vernon Downs and Tioga Downs are great, and are always looking for a new bet. I'd suggest starting there.

You could try talking with Twinspires. Something tells me they're looking for a replacement for their new jackpot 5 wager - which was hit today for a paltry $440.....

These are all great ideas, thanks. Not sure what he wants to do with the idea, not sure IF he wants to do anything, but your generosity here will lead to an interesting conversation, no doubt.

Now, if I were in his shoes . . .

If your bold new idea is a new Pick Four combining the final two races at Belmont Park with the first two at Penn National on Thursday nights, I'm sorry to report that breakthrough wagering innovation has already been implemented.
