It's truly the bizarro world when a guy who actually loves the sport of harness racing and doesn't want to see it fade into oblivion is considered a "rogue."

I love the A-B-C thing. We have way too many classes in racing that make it easy for these horsemen to pick and choose easy spot and make the events awful betting races. That has been said on this board many times.

In my earliest memories of Harness, that's the way it used to be. Not sure why it changed.
Pandy?

I must be the only guy that isn't in love with this guy. I don't hate him , but don't see this greatness . I know there is a lot of propaganda but the facts really bring him down to earth. I hope he succeeds , but lets be honest . Ten years , no slots , no Gural.

In ten years the slots model might not even exist, as there's no reason these games can't be played at home.

I think the "greatness" would be handle being up 33% when harness racing throughout the rest of the country is virtually dead. Someone must like betting on it. It's a pretty remarkable achievement.

I think the reason why they went away from the ABC classes was because some people thought that trainers were "milking" the class and telling the drivers to hold the horses so they didn't have to go up in class. I never believed that. If you are a driver, trainer, or owner, and you don't win races you will not be in the business for long.
Right now I would say that Gural is the best racetrack CEO in the country in either sport because he is proactive, he listens to customers and even respects the opinions of people like me, and his success at the Meadowlands so far is remarkable.

If he has a key to large handle , one would think he would have already used it. He owns two of the lowest handle, poor product, garbage pits with slots in the nation. Out handled every weekend by the raceway parks and Northvilles of the world. Same management team. Pardon me if I wait a while for the long term results.

When the slots are over, so is harness racing.

One thing that wasn't explained in the article was how the ABC system worked.
Not being a harness guy, I assume it means that if you succeed in one class (a win? three places? six shows?), you move up, and if you fail (however defined) in a higher class, you move down.
But what are the nuts and bolts? and what bars thoroughbred tracks from using a similar system?

Interesting that you make a statement like this with no facts.
There are no slot machines at the Meadowlands????

Catering to horsemen. Lets be honest, a horse running in a 5,000 NW2 lifetime is rarely worth 5,000. It only has value because of the conditions it has left.
