I just watched this for the first time, and this is the worst DQ I've ever seen in almost 48 years of following the sport. The first two words that came to mind after the video ended were "justifiable homicide". They literally took him down for "running too fast", to repeat a rant I've heard too many times at the track and OTBs in the greater Philadelphia area. I'd like to say that after seeing this I'll never complain about the Eagles again, but such pledges never hold up past mid-season.

I think the 64 dollar question is this. Should this ticket being alive for a million+ have been a factor? I know many will say no, but i say yes and here's why...because a bettor being alive for over a million is essentially equivalent to an owner winning a 2.5 million dollar race...and we all know that there are rarely DQs in HUGE pursed races, there is much more of a standard of proof to come down, they usually try as hard as they can to pay the winning owner if he wins and only in the most extreme cases, will a winner in a 2.5 million dollar race be disqualified.
The judges didnt judge this race as if it was a 2.5 mil purses for someone, they acted like it was just another race.

Its a travesty if its just a "bad call" If they took the horse down to preserve the carryover...well, its 10X worse.

The Judge
Why does the "Track" get to know how many "live tickets" are out before the very last race is official? How does that help the public trust?
They know, and often announce, before the last race the number of live tickets going into the last race? Why? This information should not be known by anyone except the ticket holder until after the race is official, if then (don't forget you still have to get home safe.)
The pick-6 has had a shaky past, the Old compliant was the last minute "Vet" scratch as the horses are going into the gate. This has happened more times then one might imagine. The live ticket is then placed on the post-time favorite, a horse that the pick- 6 player may have avoided like the plague. Maybe the bettor already has the favorite on his ticket he now has one less horse running and two bets on the same horse.
Pick-6 players complained so much it led to Hollywood Park coming up with a computer program that allowed alternate choices "if you mark the alternate box" when you place your bet.
The industry had always said that a program couldn't be made to handle the alternate possibilities. This was the excuse as late as the 1990's. It took R.D Hubbard the owner of Hollywood Park to "finally" realized how unfair it was to place a bettor on a horse he or she had not picked or already had. He caused a program developed that could handle the alternate horse.
Here is an article 11/2007 , plus lots of discussion on old posts on this board.

Originally i didn't agree with this, but now that you mention it and now that i think about it some more, if i was alive for hundreds of thousands, i dont know if i would want the "track" or the "judges" or the jockeys to know which horse was paying out that kind of money to someone other than them.
If "horsemen" get part of the betting handle thru increased purses and preserving carryovers creates additional handle which creates the possibility of a bigger handle for the meet, that seems like a bit of a conflict of interest.

Awful call and one of the worst I've ever seen.
I think I bet this race. I remember betting a who was "steam" on the board from 30-1 ML to the 15-1 ML odds. If someone has the MLs that race to confirm for me. Like Gulfstream usually does I remember the last few races before this one being won on the lead and I thought the 12 was the best speed in the last, even though it was on the grass. I had no idea someone was home alone on the in the rainbow six. That's brutal. And I thought having my last few dollars to win on Setsuko get taken down in Big Cap was bad...
