there aren't that many people that are betting $30k on a horse that they probably know is going to run dead last ahead of time, unless the guy is a bonified nut job.

Laurel Park was a major player when I first started betting in the 1960s. I remember reading about the DC International in my Turf and Sport Magazines while in High School. Kind of sad what has happened to it. I use to bet the track on Youbet around 2000 until work got in the way. I did very well there at time. There was something about routes races that I believed favored the inside. I can't remember what now. Help? As I remember, no Sunday had something to do with state or local Blue Law although you would think that would have been changed by now.

It's a 1 1/8 dirt track. 1 1/16 races had a very short run to the first turn. Things are different now with the reconfiguration and alternate finish lines.

Has nothing to do with state or local blue laws. If I remember correctly they adjusted to no Sunday racing once or twice in the 1990s, but just during football season. I think they may have done it again in the last 10 years; but for the past 6 to 7 years its been no Sunday racing, regardless of the NFL season. Laurel only, Pimlico runs on Sundays during the spring meet.

Maryland breds were #2 or 3 to Kentucky breds when I first started playing

Does anyone have any recent opinions on racing at Laurel. Do you wager there on a regular basis?

Thanks.

I go once in a while. Local track and a nice rhythm if you go paddock to window to finish line.

Racing is OK, and they have some big days. Like anywhere else you have to be selective with your major plays. Class is a notch down from the big tracks, but a notch up from the cheapest tracks.

They use the '2nd finish-line' for the mile races, and sometimes you learn something about a horse with that stretch run.

Claudio Gonzales is a super-trainer there.

Last big day I remember attending was Ben's Cat celebration last November. Got to meet Sam the Bugler, bobble-head of Ben's Cat, signature drink Ben's Crush, was a good time.

Anytime I play there, scratches galore. I feel like its a waste of time to handicap the races because all the scratches will make the races unplayable. There will be big fields for the 5 1/2F grass races, but I hate those type of races

I hear you 'fleet....handicap all night only to find out that 8 horse field is now only 4. Pardon my french, but f*ck that. As much as Finger Lakes get bashed...they keep their scratches to a minimum.

There are other tracks that don't go for that--scratch horses with wild abandon. I finally gave up on Saratoga for the same reason.
