I'm with you PA in terms of first generation video games. I think we are of similar vintage (I'm 49). Mainly Intellivision which had a horse racing game. In high school we played a lot of Nintendo esp RBI Baseball. Nowadays, I only play NHL on my kid's XBox. If they had a good horseracing game I would definitely play it (and maybe my kid would get into the game!).
McKinsey should have come up with that suggestion- forget seeing live racing- its the video games that will attract the next generation. Horse racing needs a really good video game on all platforms!
I'm 49 as well. Started out with Atari 2600 and the Atari line of PCs and all the games that went with that...also had a TI 99/4A...remember that one?
Never had the TI I don't think, but did have Pong then the 2600 and played it all the time, sports, Adventure and I think Missile Command was on that. Thought Intellivision was a big step up (but the controller sucked!)
Used to love playing pinball and Asteroids & Defender. I could play Asteroids or Defender all day long, on one quarter, if I wanted to. Lost interest when the new games, at the time, were Pacman and Donkey Kong ... did not like those games. 😁
