The Thompson is a 75+ year old gun, I do think age makes a difference on ownership requirements.
Back in around 2005, during the real estate boom where people were burning through home equity I saw a cable TV show covering a large shooting range, maybe in Arizona? This wasn't your normal shooting range, they had all kinds of things to shoot at, even junk cars with the glass still intact. They had machine guns, grenade launchers and other nasty things to rent. Some guys were spending $5-$10k a day on gun rental and ammo. I wonder if that place is still in business?

Well what you can do in NH is very different than Massachusetts. What you buy depends on taste and how rare it is. If you know what you are doing you do not lose money. Another guy on here is in love with Ruger semiauto and might have a few of the same models. When in production you pay what it is, ten years later not in production it might cost 2 or 3 times to get the same nib. This is being in the know and not dying with a safe full. I had a beautiful 6 inch Colt King Cobera I got new for $275 in SS. I shot the piss out of it and after sitting in the safe ten years I got much more than I paid for it new. Now the shows and out west I can't really speak to.
