yes, I think I would need to see a shooter or people being shot before I started running. Kind of crazy tables got knocked over.

am i a hypocrite??

ok poker fans we are back with another trip report from the place where the sands turn to gold; exciting atlantic city!!

we are again joined by my amazing girlfriend estrella who chooses this trip over the annual colts loss at jacksonville which is scheduled for september 18.

on our way to atlantic city we pass pokerless hollywood grantville and hollywood morgantown who don't deserve our business. but i do note that we're staying at pokerless theoceanac and wonder if that makes me some kind of hypocrite??

maybe i am a bad person but we're having a good time at the ocean and getting some much needed relaxation. i do wish they had at least basic horseracing (nyra, mth, dmr, ky, maybe hong kong) and a small poker room and note that in my survey comments.

finally on our last morning we checkout of the ocean and head down the boardwalk to tropicana where i jump into a 1/2 no limit contest.

these afternoon games at the trop have proven to be far from ideal as it's mostly competent players and today's match is no exception. the room is quiet with only three or four tables going and i wonder about this once vibrant game's future on the boardwalk? one player notes that it's like playing in a mausoleum.

i fall behind early but grind back for a $75 win after AA gets home in a multi-way pot. although i gain financially, i feel i made a few mistakes that ironically may have cost me the win. with the AA i felt i should have bet more on the turn although this may have caused the tanking villain to fold? another hand i played embarrassingly bad although the pot again went multi-way and there's no guarantee i fold out both villains who hit fours on a 44x flop?

in out of town scores, track collector rallies for a $16 win from $350 down at horseshoe baltimore.

thank you for reading!!

game +75 (1/2 nl)
year -27 (1-2)

YTD Report

Hello everyone,

My poker spreadsheet has been updated and time to give a report of my results thru the end of the 3rd Quarter.

I am basically even (-$0.08/per hour), but like from the previous report, I am only where I am because of such good fortune with High Hands and/or other promotions. Seems like unfavorable variance continues to follow me. Recently I have lost BIG pots after being favored after the flop with the following conditions:

66%-34% favorite --> This obviously happens a significant amount of time.
75%-25% favorite --> This happens sometimes too, but not nearly as often.
86%-14% favorite --> Very unlucky.
92%-8% favorite --> This is brutal.

There were a few more, but they escape my memory at this time. Winning just one or two of these big pots would have significantly changed my results.

Mix in some bad play, and I am not obviously not going to turn things around yet. Unlike previous years, I have in general not been able to put together a few good sessions in a row. Just recently, I finally did so, winning about 6 smaller profit sessions for about $500, only to give back -$400, in my most recent session.

Normally my "goal" is to achieve breakeven or perhaps +$1/$3 per hour on pure poker, then along with various promotions, make it a nice winning year. This year I am definitely not going to breakeven on pure poker results, unless I encounter a very rare "extended" hot streak. Without promotions, I am currently at about -$5.50/hour. A realistic "goal" would be to reduce this to about -$2.50 to -$3.00 per hour by the end of the year.

Thanks for putting up with my rant. I recognize that objective assessment of one's poker, along with a strong measure of mental and emotional toughness, are definitely two qualities necessary for one to achieve winning poker, so I need to soldier on.

A few weeks ago I was on a trip to add a new racetrack to my visit list, and in the process, I was able to play in two poker rooms I have never been to. The first one was the Dakota Dunes (Saskatoon, Saskatchewan), with 1/3 NL CAD, and the other one was the card room at Canterbury Downs, with $2-100 Spread Limit. Four total enjoyable, but losing sessions. Cby has the prettiest poker chips I have ever encountered, especially the $5 chip, which was red with purple, and an outline of a horse. I will post a picture I if ever figure out how to transfer from my phone.

One stop included visits to Assiniboia Downs. Unfortunately the two nearby poker rooms in that area have yet to re-open. In passing a few minutes time I checked out one of the older downtown bowling establishments in Winnipeg. Instead of "10-Pins", they had the Canadian version called "5-Pins". Those interested can check it out on YouTube. I definitely want to try this out the next time I get back to Canada!

Now off to my first poker session to start the 4th Quarter. May your future poker room visits be successful!!

personally i don't believe robbi could outplay aunt hortense from the old horseshoe baltimore games.....but what do i know?

it's their world and i... just barely..... exist in it.

they have colorful names (beanz, rip, nik airball....) that sound like they came right out of goodfellas while talking like they just stumbled out of the local crips meeting. ya know what i mean?

they're young and popular and seemingly have more money to throw around casinos than archie karas.

and generous. oh so generous.

they can lend tens and hundreds of thousands to people they barely know or even just met! no references or background check!! some peasant steals $15,000 from them? it's all good, bro!!

it's all good bro, but ain't all easy bro.

some of them have successful careers, ya know what i mean?

rip works for jake paul(!!!) while nik airball sounds like a tennis shoe, but is really....wait for it.... an investment banker with a lifestyle that makes the wolf of wallstreet look like ward cleaver in comparison. beanz? i don't know how he earns a buck but i do know that thousands and thousands of dollars flow freely from hand to hand while i dare not peak at my own pathetic biden era roth.

robbi jade looks like she got lost at the casino on the way home from a star trek audition but actually has a successful pharmaceutical career (!!) while being married to a wealthy so cal lawyer? is it dilanesp? i'm not telling!

what, btw, do you call 1,000 lawyers at the bottom of the ocean?

if you made it this far.... thank you for reading!!

ok poker fans, the above predicted annual jacksonville massacre is in the record books (0-24 this year! ) and estrella and i are back on the road and negotiating philadelphia traffic, again on our way to exciting atlantic city!!

it's phillies fever this fall in the city but usually the only sports topic the queen of the pick 6 brings up are her pals jose and irad ortiz. today though she mutters something about jordano tunon y viernes* (huh?) as i break out some nascar moves to get us over the new jersey border.

we're staying at the beautiful ocean casino but start down the boardwalk grabbing a coffee at resorts dunkin' donuts** before continuing to tropicana where we've offered to put a little play on a friend's players card. he's shooting for diamond which is a lifestyle every dedicated gambler should experience at least once imho.

estrella goes back and forth and gets a good start on the players card before i take over and nearly jackpot a basic three reel machine with two diamonds and a 7. so dinner's on me and i decide it's time to try someplace new and opt for a place called the irish pub, just off the boardwalk on st james place.

the irish pub is a quaint throwback to the early days of the famous ac boardwalk. it is cash only and the joint oozes mahogany, the walls teeming with early 20th century memorabilia art. low ceilings and precipitous "watch your step" steps may pose a challenge if you can look down at joel embiid or up at danny devito. i almost expect to see rhea perlman behind the bar and paul newman's fast eddie felson nursing a jts brown.

while an aproned gordon ramsay isn't about to emerge from the kitchen and ask if our fried fish has been microwaved long enough, biden era inflation has yet to influence the prices for dishes that should sate anyone with an appetite short of joey chestnut.

the irish pub

tu dices flor-eeda, i say flo-ryda, let's call our whole stack off?

ok poker fans, we are back in exciting atlantic city where things have taken a bad turn as estrella is struggling with the machines at beautiful ocean casino.

we pick over some breakfast in the district food court as i attempt to explain music star flo rida* who is scheduled at ocean for november 26th.

"nombre es florida???"

"actualmente es flo-ryda" i tell her while silently hoping that we don't have to get too low, low, low to win the dough, dough, dough.

out in the casino i strike another double diamond machine while estrella's struggles continue. we hope another trip to tropicana will change her luck?

it does!

they seem to have moved our winning machines from yesterday but estrella sniffs out new winners and starts rolling with our friend's platinum card tagging along for the ride!

over in the poker room i try to dust off my rusty skillz in some 3/6 company.
K4 nabs a flush from the big blind but another flush with 98 is beaten by A7. the contest continues back and forth, fortunately finishing up a couple redbirds more forth than back.

out in the casino i pull estrella off the machines before she bankrupts tropicana. today estrella, to paraphrase flo, is the man who bends the rubber bands.

tonight at the irish pub it's dinner on her!!

thank you for reading!!

diamond!!! platinum- no mo fo yo!

ok felt fanatics we are back for one final day of gambling in america's playground, marvelous atlantic city!!

it's been a great trip so far, save for a couple hiccups on the ocean slots, but after another breakfast at district food court estrella begins to extract her revenge on the north boardwalk bandits. a bunch of fire balls with varying amounts of money come up on the slot screen and estrella wins them all. she fortunately ignores my advice of "leaving when the machine gives you the answer you're looking for" and soon thereafter more "moneyballs" come up on the screen. eventually she gets up with a tidy profit and i suggest we hit harrah's on our way out of town for a change of pace.

over at harrah's, estrella grabs the player's card to help our (caesars rewards) "platinum pal" while i hit the poker room for some more 3/6 action.

after a couple setbacks with pocket 9s, i catch fire winning three times with KQ and even once with my old nemesis KK. later it's decision time multiway with A9 rivering a nut flush against KQ. i opt to raise the bettor, folding out a couple potential overcalls but am able to four bet after he three bets me!

this game is a dealer's dream and really a pleasure to play in win or lose as we're getting in a ton of hands with the whole table playing relatively quickly. unfortunately it eventually breaks but our carriage is about ready to turn back into a pumpkin anyhow.

out in the casino i can't find estrella but eventually locate her at a volcano machine. the lava is flowing and our friend's diamond dreams are about to come true!

thank you for reading!!

it is my absolute pleasure to have introduced great mid-atlantic players like yourself and the lion to this amazing game!! and hopefully your own "special girl" does not blame me for that!!

now we have received much feedback about post #40 (st james irish pub blues??) as jordano tunon (!!!) continues to strike with an incredible 1/2 week to win and 2/2 to place!!

how??? how proximity??? how, how, how did she know that jordano tunon was suddenly going to get red hot and become the mark cramer kinky handicapping hot jockey of the week?????????

well, my answer is i don't have the first damn clue so let's go straight to the source with an exclusive interview: estrella! la reina del seis!!

proximity: estrella! good morning!! welcome to paceadvantage.com!!!

estrella: si, mi amor.

proximity: estrella, as you know, paceadvantage.com is home to most of the best horseplayers and handicappers in the world...

estrella: si, mi amor. very much.

proximity: they also know a lot about politics!!

estrella: me no se nada sobre politics mi amor.

proximity: you're still voting for dr oz though, right?

estrella: si mi amor.

proximity: anyhow tunon has been hot as a firecracker!

estrella: el consejo es gratis mi amor. (the advice is free my love)

proximity: many want to know just how in the hell you came up with this?!?!?

estrella: (paraphrasing north american great "charlie" from andrew beyer's the winning horseplayer ) vi algunas cosas que no puedo contarte.....lo entiendes, este es mi negocio.....

(i saw some things i cannot tell you about. you understand, this is my business)

proximity: thank you estrella for joining us on paceadvantage.com!

estrella: de nada.

kings over queens in the cold november rain.....

ok poker fans, we are back on the road to where the sands turn to gold; marvelous atlantic city!! special thanks to the ocean casino and resort for a complimentary* two night stay!!

we are again joined by my amazing girlfriend estrella for this rainy late november drive to the atlantic shore. we really worked tons right through the thanksgiving holiday (especially me) so it is a well deserved break!

i can't believe it's come to this but there doesn't appear to be ANY boardwalk poker now so we stop at the borgata on our way into town to dust off my rusty skills in a 3/6 limit contest.

i jump out to a quick lead before QQ falls to KK, putting the issue in doubt. later though i rally and finish the job with my own KK holding sway! the way it's supposed to be!!

out in the casino, estrella isn't having her customary luck. maybe ocean will treat her better?

tomorrow: bored walk?

game +27 (3/6 lim)
year +109 (4-2)
