Great contrast in these two meetings. EVD gets a spring break between Deltas closing and they get runners prepped in TX, OK, AR and North Florida and others around the mid-west. Race purses favor the lower claimers and a solid LA homebred program that produces alot of horses.
Total purse structure is a fraction of NYRA purses and breeding awards. To me the $12.5k maiden claimers in NY look alot like 5k maiden claimers at some smaller tracks. Same with the mid claiming level 8k to 20k open claimers.

I do not understand why the higher purses do not attract more spring shippers for this AQU meet ending month. We are on our 5th and 6th rodeo for some of these fields at AQU. Any ideas why we have not seen more ship in runners from MD and PA this winter? Maybe it is because if you run your 25K horse for a 25K NYRA purse you may well win a race but you are very likely to leave your horse with Mr Jacobsen or RR or several other aggressive claiming outfits.
Historically, I consider the spring main track meeting a transition for everyone to set up camp for a long Belmont stay, maybe targeting better runners for these races who we know will draw much stiffer competetion from around the country. NYRA full fields should return next month I hope.
Deciding the lesser of two evils between two even money shots in a 5 horse field does not really keep my interest level high. I have not tabbed any of this AQU meetings regular runners to improve on the ship to a new track. There might be a couple of exceptions, depending on where they land, but nothing at Belmont for sure.

4/13/17 Race 8
Race 8 today at AQU
Tapa Liath (NY) 4/F L $40,000 R Maragh 121 C F Martin
Queen of Spades (NY) 4/F L $40,000 M Franco 121 N Chatterpaul
R8 - Not feeling it for the 4/5 ML fave out of the 10 post. # Queen of Spades is in the well if she hooks up with # Nouvelle Vague late. # Tapa Liath may be able to keep inside of her and save a kick. Good luck today.
x - Win and over/under exacta $2 each = $10

Three days in a row that I have not found one race I can wager any real money on at Aqueduct...
With that said, to breathe life into this thread, let's look at this 2nd race, shall we?
And of course by looking at the race, I'm sure I might be tempted to bet it...
Oh look, I like the speed...
3/2
5/2

I don't see this favorite as taking all that big a class drop here, even though she is going from 25 to 16. This is kind of a tough field.
Third off the layoff...might improve, but even with improvement, I think she's going to have a tough time against my top two picks. And this trainer is pretty bad third off the layoff according to the TFUS ratings.
See, I think I will bet this race...the is quite tempting at 7/2
